Battery light , no pwoer steering, water? leak

Well the N reg 300tdi is still going strong well was until today

Battery light came on when driving, I pulled over and attempted to get it onto some rough ground, by which time I noticed the power steering was pretty much none existent

There also seems to be a puddle of water from the engine area

Now too dark to see anything properly so had to abandon it till tomorrow (Christmas day, gee thanks not to mention our boiler got condemned today too!:doh Anyway, what could it be? reading around possibly thinking belt /alternator issue

but would this account for the puddle? and help appreciated.

sounds like auxiliary belt has come off hopefully not through faulty water pump

i guess your wate rpump seized and snapped your belt, all seem to be linked

well went back today, the belt is off but undamaged, its damaged the fan cover. Anyway going to try get it back on tomorrow then get it home to be checked thoroughly, just hope it works as obviously there was a reason why is came off.

First suspect for me would be a seized water pump. After that a seized alternator.

Think youre right Dave, the water pump pully very loose , managed to get belt back on and get it shifted to local garage but it soon came off again.
