The other day I noticed coolant dripping from the front off-side behind the headlight. I popped down to my local Land Rover dealer and they took a quick look and said it was the rad to header tank overflow pipe had split. Rather than pay their prices fo a plastic pipe I replaced it with rubber hose. his has worked perfectely, however I think the cause of the leak was due to the battery over heating and spitting battery acid everywhere and burning a hole through the plastic pipe.

Can anyone shed any light as to why the battery would do this. I guessing that due to all the electrical gubbins on a P38 that the battery isn't up to the job.

Over charging boiling electrolyte off. I am unaware that battery acid can effect a plastic pipe.

What about if there was a metal clip on it would it react with the acid to produce enough heat to melt it of crack it ? Seems unlikely. Mine leaked here but that was due to vibration and erosion on a bracket nothing to do with battery acid

I didn't think that battery acid would be corrosive enough to melt a plastic pipe but it definitely looked melted rather than cracked.
I will check what the voltage is, it could be over charging as mentioned.

many thanks
