Imo I would look at Xcess4x4s stuff. He quoted me the "ultra build" (pegged, new bearings, new CW&P, superflange & ATB) for £1080.

I didnt want to mess with ratios due to it still being a daily and spends a fair amount of time on the mway, if anything I'm looking at a disco tx box.

That will exacerbate the gearing mismatch as the Diso has higher gearing at 1.2:1 and Def has 1.4:1 you're already 13% up on your gearing according to calculators and you'd hit 16.5% with a 1.2 TXB

I am running an older 200Tdi with lower power admittedly but even with higher power and more torque I would be looking to make life easier on the engine and trans not harder.
 
Yeah I see what youre getting at. Currently the big tyres cause the speedo to read 100% bang on.

My Disco on 235/85 16s make my speedo spot on too but I am concerned that going beyond the +10% gearing I have now the even higher gearing will make my engine work too hard, obs I don't have the tuning that your TD5 does but I am conscious of the strain it puts on the whole drive train.

I did look at ATBs but decided that I might as well go full lockers as the price difference isn't massive when you look at the whole building up of a diff.
 
Another good point. lil bit more research is needed I think....

I didnt want to deal with running air lines, the extra expense and time of a compressor and the effort of finding switch space. + with the TC the ATBs effectively act like a locker the second the TC kicks in, which I can usually do easily with a little right foot.
 
So damage report after being up on the ramps

X2 track rod balljoints - excessive play
Front driver side hub seal failed
Rear driver side hub seal failed
Rear pass side bearing - large play - hub nut loose
TX box leak - not extreme but notable
Front diff pinion seal leak
Rear drivers side bump stop damaged

Not too bad considering what it went through... :oops::rolleyes::D

Luckily had spares for all so didnt cost a huge amount.

Thinking proper extended bump stops for the front and to replace the bump stop spacers (rear only) or maybe hydro if i can justify the point of them.

I did plan to finally wire in my aux train horn while I fit some Osram Nightbreaker bulbs. Got the bulbs in and then just could not be bothered :oops: so its fitted just not wired in lol

Nightbreaks are a fair bit brighter though, should help during the dark months!

Spanish Santana on P38 axles and a custom cage doing rather well round the supertrack! 2 1/4 diesel I believe too!

I would say its well worth going. Driving through France is a bit ****. Took roughly 7 hours with a fair few fuel tops a 4.9 V8 110 with a trailer meant many stops haha

Overall not too bad of a drive though.

Pyrenees are amazing, even if we only saw a fraction of them. As are the smugglers tracks through Andorra.

LRP itself was very well run and very well organised. Cheap ice cold beers on tap and your regular selection of spirits.

The mountain tracks are second to none. All set out on a "ski run" difficulty.

Green for road cars (such as the Velar), blue for RRs/Discos, reds for experienced drivers, black routes for experienced and modified landys (like us lot, though we avoided a fair few) and gold for challenge trucks only (where I messed up :oops::p)

You get a map which is easy to navigate and plenty of help if you get lost/stuck.

Not a huge amount in the way of trade stalls, more catered to £3k roof tents and the like not a huge amount for "proper" landys if you catch me drift.

All in all I the trip cost the 3 of us roughly £350 - £400 each all in (not including my spares :oops:) thats tolls, fuel, ferry, tickets, food n beers. Not bad for over a weeks holiday imo.

Flight n hotel to Barcelona would cost you that and more!

Oh and almost no worry of having things nicked...

Been runnin with around 200ml of low ash 2 stroke for the past few tanks. Getting better MPG and less smoke which is a bonus!

I run my 200Tdi with 250ml mineral 2st oil per fill in it, little less knock and smoother I found, seems better on the MPGs but would need to do brim to brim fill ups with and without over set route and set mileage to compare.

How are your lights now on these darker nights?
 
Ahhh the Osram Nightbreakers are fantastic compared to the old bulbs. Well worth it imo.

Still been needing the front spots down the lanes tho! Bloody pitch black!

Mpgs gone from a steady 230m for £70 to a steady 290m for £70 so roughly 21 - 25mpg with the 2 stroke.
