Been shopping again! Bought a few bits ready for soundproofing the front and adding the auxiliary fuse box. I want to do it all in one go to reduce removing the seats all the time, especially since the passenger seat is bolted in as the rivnuts gave up

MUD Cubby Locker - Sits underneath the cubby box and raises it up by around 10cm, not ideal but it does make for a nicer arm rest! Inside it will house the Blue Sea 12 way aux fuse box, CB Radio with front panel mount mic jack and audio jack on the front and the subwoofer controls, plus spare fuses/relays. Also going to fit a 12v socket and 5v USB on the rear maybe fit a another 12v on the front just because I can  Keeps everything neat and tidy! but easily accessed.

Also got a 175amp Anderson connector so I can jump/be jumped without having to take the seat out, connector will sit on the passenger foot well.

Some internal fit wind deflectors, much cheaper than the Climair ones but look just as good, some aero blade wipers and a new battery. Went for the Enduroline, 1000cca,120ah biggest one I could find that would fit. Didnt fancy the split charge route, too much hassle imo. This one should be able to run near enough everything I want without issue.

Going order LRI Solutions Premium front carpet set shortly as well. My carpet isnt that bad at the minute but as soon as I start trying to pull it up for the Fatmat its going to rip, so better to replace! Also better quality and has better coverage than my current carpet.

To be extra fancy some YRM stainless sills, really tidy up the interior and finish off the carpet nicely. Not bad for £55 set of 4.
lr_def_103.jpg

Soundproofing will consist of Fatmat Megamat over the entire seatbox, transmission tunnel and fooot wells up to the A/C (I simply cannot be bother to remove it all!)
Then some areas will be covered with 3mm closed cell foam which does not absorb water but is a brilliant insulator for both heat/cold and sound.
The carpet will then be spray glued over the top as the final layer. In a vain attempt to keep the carpet looking fresh I am going to spray the whole lot with some suede protection spray, the idea is water should bead off and it should be harder for mud to stick!

Rather a large job to do! Though well worth it, certainly made a world of difference in my 90.

Your car looks great and shames my own pathetic attempts to make the Defender a little less agricultural.

Can you let me know where the YRM stainless sills come from? YRM is new to me.

You laugh but thats happened to me a few times! Coming down hill on the motorway and suddenly im apparently doing 85 and the engine isnt going mad! hahaha

agree , have had to watch the speed

bet ur well pleased seeing the amount of work you've put in

gave the D3 a nice clear out the other week on the motorway , was nice a clear , looked down and was doing just over 90 mph , scared the life out of me

was quite impressed seeing it didn't wander , think the top speed is 103mph , but know i for one wouldn't dream of doing anywhere near that kind of speed, as i know things can go wrong seriously quick and be catastrophic at those speeds ,

Thank you :) I did build a 90 to a similar spec a few years ago so I know what to do and what not to do. Plus enormous amounts of research and reading other peoples threads! Especially since this time round I have a proper plan, not just a 'Ahh that looks nice! Ill bolt it on!' lol

Your 90 looks lovely, don't often see yellow ones, got any better/bigger pics?

Ahhh! Well youre in for a treat! YRM are your one stop shop for nuts, bolts, new panels etc! http://www.yrm-metal-solutions.co.uk

@gstuart I imagine the D3 is a hell of a lot more stable at high speed though!

there was me thinking , a new link to check out , no D3 bits on there , sob

think the suspension drops down on its own at motorway speeds, was also surprised seeing i've got a/t tyres fitted , was expecting it to wander but didn't

never had a series that would go over 50 mph, that was scary enough, but know urs is a different beast

normally prefer to stick to around 65mph , turn the cruise on and radio up , will get there in the end

Cruise control! Can only dream of such luxuries! Yeah 60 my usual, 65 is the limit. As good as the Cooper Pros are above 60 they do get a bit vibratey. Its not nice at at all! Hopefully the sound deadening will reduce this a tad but I havnt got my hopes up. Ideally I'd like to have a set of quality A/Ts on the Bowlers for road driving and the Pros on some steel wheels for off road driving. The sheer cost puts me off, plus I don't do that many miles, maybe 5k a year if that.

or house brick on the accelerator, lol , had to retrofit the cruise control on mine

also find at around 65mph can get over 32mpg , so works for me

mine are the cooper at/3 , small tyre as there only 235/70/17 , seen a few D3 with low profiles which i think are useless for any off road usage

i only do around 3,000 miles per year and also can't warrant a set of on and off road tyres , thought with the at/3 i should hopefully get a half decent grip on and off road, haven't had the chance to try them properly in a good off road track yet , to see how they perform

wondering if u do go to lz13 about meeting up on route

are u putting a cb in, going to install one , wondering if i may pop round sometime to have a hand with setting the swr up please

Yes for sure! Setting up a CB is a nightmare unless you have someone to help! Going for the Maxon CM70, reasonable price and seen it action gives crystal clear audio both transmitting and receiving.

Just bought this little adapter, so I can keep the CB hidden in the Mud locker and have the mic attached from the outside!

Oooo now that's given me ideas of mounting my cb in the centre cubby box or glovebox of my Disco and running a lead to the centre console or dash to attach the mic when laning or off-roading.

Also I really need to get my carpet and factory deadning out to see what the floor is like.
Then basically gonna shameless copy everything you are doing to waterproof the inside lol.

Many thanks for your kind and quick response, it's greatly appreciated.

I don't have any more images at the moment, but I am intending to post some as and when I get around to making so modifications. I have never had a grand master plan and, as a pensioner, with three teenage girls, planning has to go hand in hand with financial circumstances. My wife sustains the family through her salary, which I'm certain she never thought of when she said "I do"!

I have a house full of bits and pieces which I have bought over a period of about six years. The problem is that I'm a very poor buyer and tend to collect "much needed" components whenever I feel flush.

The stratagem is to fit the new Puma Style bumper that's hiding in a seldom used room, along with an aircom style front grill and a front piece grill. I also have a plastic jobbie snorkel to fit when it stops raining.

When we built the house we didn't build a garage. Big mistake. Instead we built stables for the girls two horses. Another expensive oversight which was never considered in a long term plan!

My other issue is that the Defender continues to require day to day repairs to keep her fit to tow the horse trailer.

I'm going to to look at the site YRM and I can only hope that I don't drool too much!

No worries! Get a thread up and we can help :)

Hahaha go for it! I'll be your guinea pig  I never found a nice place for it to go in my 90 so much looking around and settled on the MUD locker. They should to another slimmer version specifically for mounting CB radios and aux boxes, I can't be the only one to have thought of this.

Hi Bankz,

Where did you get this adaptor please? I like this idea.

Cheers

Cheers! It helps when the boys doing it run winch challenges!
Aye, it shows too - they should have got together in front of the camera having done the job, and taken a bow....
IMHO, it was definitely a:-

"And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how we do that" :)
