hi guys, ive got a bit of a heavy knocking sound from the nsf suspension area, especially over speedhumps. it sounded like a knackered shocker, so i replaced both of the front shockers with monroe adventurer items, and the knocking noise is still there and still heavy!

when you hit the speedhump the osf doesnt knock and takes the bumps as it should, but the nsf bangs over them.

can anybody help me, before i start ploughing money into replacing everything on the front suspension.

cheers super stu :)

I've done all the usual suspects, all front bushes, wishbones, ARB links, checked ARB hasn't moved sideways or bent, TRE's, checked for parts touching etc etc. Upper suspension turret bearing/bush and security of top nuts next, once I've got some time to move the fuseboxes and coolant res! BTW had a funny groaning noise from O/S when steering for a few days which has strangely cured itself........

I have the same thing on mine, I just assumed it was the shocker hitting it's limit stop.
My old ford focus had the same clunk if I went over a speed bump at the wrong speed. Although I've also noticed with the TD4, that if I go over them faster it doesn't do it.

Now thats interesting, Andrew. I have noticed that when driving home after covering the odd night for the regular night-man, I drive home, er, a bit quick! This includes speedbumps etc. There is more creaking and mild knocks at low speeds in "everyday" type speeds over poor surfaces or speedbumps, almost nothing at higher speed. Had the car fully laden 5 adults, full tank on Sunday, much much less knock too, any thoughts?

Hi all,

If you're going to be tightening the top shocker / strut nut, make sure that the steering is dead ahead or you will land up with the steering pulling to one side.

Best to use a torque wrench as it's important that both sides are equal.

If the steering does tend to go to one side, all you need to do is slacken the top nuts 2 turns only, bounce the car up and down a few times turn the steering half a turn left then half a turn right a few times, bounce it again with the steering straight - then finally tighten equally.

Dealers charge a fortune for this this mystical, magic treatment, and keep the car for at least half a day!

Cheers,

Singvogel.

Will hopefully be checking the top nuts this weekend, changing brake pads too, getting a bit thin. Thanks for the tips Singvogel.
