Right as I seem to be slowly rebuilding the drive train on my 110 I have started to investigate my next job. Backlash from the rear diff/halfshafts.
I have replaced the A frame ball joint so I ken that's not the issue.
Having driven a 110 wolf on Salisbury plain recently for 3 weeks I got back into my beast and noticed the backlash was horrendous. The wolf had very little. Now reading up on the repair of backlash in the AESP for wolfs (the military repair manual and parts book) it states any more than 10mm of travel at the the diff then replace the diff. Currently I have up to 30mm!.
Now I have new Drive flanges to fit, but have any of you replaced the half shafts and cured this fault? Haven spoken to the DSG (civi mechanics employed by the military) they seem to reckon replace half shafts before playing with the diff. Now I have priced up the shafts and prices range from 40 quid to 350 for genuine spares? Anybody used the likes of All makes or Bearmach?
Or have any of you adjusted the diff itself? I found a step buy step guide online but cant find it now?? This may be a bit above my pay grade but haver any of you adjusted the bearings successfully?
Lads and Lassies and help or direction would be greatfully appreciated
