Ok so have set about changing the rear springs and shocks. Got the old ones out no problem. allthough spring retainers very rusty and obviously need relacing. However problem is axle mounts the bits the spring retainer and spring seat bolt too have rusted through. Is this common? Anyone have any suggestions on how I can repair, is welding a new mount on the only option, do I have to fab a mount? Thanks Jim

also the bump stop doesnt exist... the orriginal has fell off a long time ago. I have bought new but the retainer for it has rusted away. Is this common or do I just have a rust bag! Have people fabbed a new bump stop retainer before.

Its bizzare as the body and chasis is generally in very good shape. But in a few specific places it has been hit hard with rust.

I belive it is common for them to rust there. I was working under mine couple weeks ago, and as pulled myself from under the car the bump stop came with me lol. I think you can buy new spring seats, you just need to weld them on matey. Not so sure on the bump stop bracket thou. Have alook at www.paddocks.co.uk may be of some use to you.

this might be what you need
026 rear axle coil spring mounting bracket

Yeah don't want them snapping off, had that happen week after we got mine. Migth be cheaper so go out find another rear axle and fit that, unless you have a welder and are good at welding

Thanks for the help guys yes thats exactly the part I need! I will check the trailing arm mounts too though I think there ok. Great to know theres a part to fix my problem anyways!

I had a bump stop fall off and when preparing for MOT was advised to either replace missing or remove the other one. The bump stops are not part of the MOT but if you've one missing they take it into account and fail you. Removed the remaining one until I can get the bolts out to replace both.

I think you will find you do need bump stops for the mot.
