It's normal for automatic boxes to allow the vehicle to "creep" , so you simply hold it on the brakes.
It won't damage anything, other than the brake light bulbs.

If theres no creep on an auto on a level surface its slipping and worn. Never known a car that doesn't need yer foot on the brake to keep it stationary when in D or R, on level ground.

They do need a brake to avoid starting but the difference is that they do not push perhaps because the DSG - Stronic system is double clutch and works differently. I don't know how other systems work.
I also had multitronic shifting and it doesn't push almost anything. It's that mine pushes a lot and I didn't know if it needs any regulation, although it seems to be normal in this car.
