Hi all,
Is the auto trans oil cooler thermostat for ' overheat 'warning message, a 'Normally Open ' type?
It has two wires coming to it but RAVE shows only one.
I have fitted a 7" fan and want to get a line from this to activate the relay.
Your ideas welcome.

Normally open. There are two wires to it, one to pin 1 and one to pin 2. Feed to pin 2, when switch is closed it provides a ground via pin 1 and brings on the overheat warning. The cooling fan has a separate switch and circuit, the over temp warning circuit is not used to switch the fan. For cooling fan circuit look at RAVE 1999 and on diesel A6, last illustration page 16 in that section is cooling fan circuit. A description of it's operation can be found in 1999 and on RAVE Automatic gearbox B7 descriptive text page 2. Your fuse box will have different relay/fuse usage and circuit/fuse usage than those illustrated for MY 1999 and on. .

You are correct. That's why I want to have a separate relay to switch ON the fan. Can I use pin 1 wire to get the relay activated? or else I will have to add the thermostat for fan too.

I would not have thought so it may well be a low voltage circuit. That is why Land Rover created a separate circuit. The two switches may also have a different operating temp. Although i can only find one switch part number listed. ESR4330

Yes, that would support the triggering of a relay. 3A contact rating at 24V - so will be similar at 12V, and a relay coil will most likely draw well under 100mA, so that would work fine. It's not waterproof though - it's designed to mounted inside a compartment (it's the same style as the EAS compressor uses). I'm sure you could get a version designed to be out in the elements though
