When i got my Disco the autobox dipstick was taped down onto the tube and when I asked why? was told "they all pop out and the tape holds them down."
Each time I check my oil I tape down the stick, no leaks, just pops off the end of the tube. Is this common on autos and just another LR "thing"
Not a major problem, just wondering.

I had this problem untill I changed the breather.turns out the gearbox one was melted.

Thanks for the quick replies,

Its just as if the clip down part is not strong enough and it just pops off the end when driving.

Gazdav, where can i find the breather to save time searching for it.

passenger side rear housing on auto box 9/16 spanner

James, thanks again for your reply,

many years ago I learned that a 9/16AF spanner was the most important spanner to work with on Caterpillar Bulldozers and tractors
(slight digression)

cheers

somebody must have a few too many 9/16 bolts cos that was the most common size in the army too, tanks and rapier!

Hi Jim, a lot of TDi 300 autos do this, it's not a big deal and is probably an indication of a blocked breather.
