For us, the best part of the lockdown easing is that we're spending more time with our first Granddaughter of 14 months. A new 'Joie' baby seat has been acquired for the Range Rover in anticipation of some road trips to come.

It is over 35 years since we did this last time - [remember the Kettler and Britax brands?] -
However, the seat just doesn't fit as neatly as I would have expected. This type of seat is retained by the car seat belt. In the front it is pretty firm but rather too upright. In the back, the seat is able to move forwards 50mm or more. It is as if the fulcrum point of the seatbelt mounting is too far forward for a comfortable attachment.

Problem could be solved with some sort of packing underneath and behind the child seat but that seems a rather Heath Robinson solution where safety is so important. Apparently the forward facing position is OK as she is more than 10Kg but this is a task that Granddad wants to get absolutely right for everyone's sake.

Has anyone else experienced such a problem?

Depends on the car seat, plus getting the seat-belt in the right place. The diagrams are often crap. Generally you need to kneel on the child seat, and then tighten the belt against the inertia lock. Then the seat stays in place.

Granddaughter's one usually stays in her Mum's Corsa, but fits snugly into my P38 front or rear. Wife's Freelander has another baby seat that needs to exit the hallway & go back into the car. No problems with that either.

I didnt even consider putting our grand kids in the front of the P38 or L322 I have now as there no option to turn front passenger air bag off as there is on some cars, just my thought on it.

She hasn’t sat in front since I checked airbag rules. Daughters corsa has the disable option, plus little one is old enough now !!

Right proper little madam in the making

My lad's was always in the back because of the airbag. Had various seats but don't ever recall an issue. Is the belt working properly and locking immediately?

Aren't you supposed to pull the belt out fully to activate the locking?
That's right ,you pull the belt all the way out ,fit the seat ,when belt goes back in its suppose to lock .i.put my weight on the kids seat to hold it down ,jerk seat belt to lock ,,I also put a car blanket under seat ,cause i hate me leather getting marked ...:D:D

Thanks for your help gents..... Not using the front seat is a good call - Advice taken! Still no luck fitting this seat to the back though. The geometry looks all wrong and I can't see how belts in that angle will restrain the seat.
Plan is to take the seat to work with me tomorrow and try fitting to a variety of other cars. TBH I can see this one going back to the supplier. (seat, not baby!)

I found the back rest of the back seat is just to upright, in the end I put some sort of packing between base of baby seat and back seat to tip baby seat back a little not ideal I know.
