Attempted theft in Widnes last night, protection?

Hi guys. I know this isn't the place for a stolen post but I need a quick answer. Someone tried to pinch my 90 last night, cut through the steering wheel and removed the wheel lock but must have been scared away just before they got it going.

What can I do before tonight that will make it abit safer/just put the scum off. I've reattached the wheel lock to the half they haven't cut through and I have grills on the windows. Any quick ideas? I won't be using it in the next few days till I get a new steering wheel, so anything I can remove under the bonnet that will hinder them?

It's parked up against my neighbours van so they can't get at the front to tow it etc but there is nothing behind it. Can't put it on the drive as my untaxed jeep is there.

So yeah, don't want it stolen a 2nd time so any ideas appreciated. Also, as I have to replace the steering wheel anyway, which is best as a replacement and preferably hard to cut through.

Really sorry to here that. Scum!

Remove battery and lock in garage - 5 min job tops. Wouldn't expect them to come equipped with a spare!

Probably worth removing the steering wheel completely as well - 10 mins tops

In slower time get yourself a disklock and clutch claw - £200 all in hurts, but less so than losing your prized landy
 
Can't really remove the battery as I have fitted seats without a removable base so it's a bit of a pain (I will do it tonight but not practical long term), and I'd give anything to have a garage. I'll be walking to my nearest halfords now and hoping they sell a disklock, hopefully a clutch claw too.

Would removing the wheel and thusly wheel lock make it easier for them to come along and just add on a spare? Or is that unlikely?
 
Think you'll find Halfords only sell the small diameter disklock and you'll need the medium

Clutch Claw I've only found on line - can send you links for both if required

Battery - wasn't suggesting as a regular approach, but as a one off before you get some other security feels sensible

Steering wheel - wouldn't expect too many tea leafs to come equipped with spare wheels, and wilst I haven't tried it, am told driving with molegrips is a real bugger!

If you have axle stands, could always take off 2 wheels as well! Again just temporary
 
Remove the feed to the stop solenoid on the injector pump.
If the scum are coming back for your landy and they know the steering wheel is fuc*** they will bring a spare.

The clutch claw dont rate them. I have read loads of reports about the pedals being cut through just above them then the little ****s drive away using the stumps.

Why not get some proper security fitted ?
Like a CAT 1 alarm and immobilizer ?
Or a CAT 2 immobilizer ?
You can not make any car un steal able but you can make it harder for them so they will go on to the next poor guys.
Personally i have the CAT 1 alarm and immobilizer it is a good deterant but i know how to beat them on a landy, but you cant shut the alarm side of it up and that is bloody loud.

I have seen companies fitting CAT 2 immobilizes for less than £80 and CAT1 alarm and immobilizes for about £200

You all think that maybe all this talk of how to stop a thief, could be helping them to steal others. they could be reading everything everyone is talking about? :doh:
 
You will find that most people who steal cars know them inside out and dont need to look on forums.

The only way to keep your landy safe is to tuck it up in bed at night next to you.
Everything and anything can be stolen all you can do is make it as difficult as possible.

As for saying what security measure i have i forgot to mention I'm a 17 stone martial arts expert and weight lifter with a couple of Kali sticks at the front door. So once the alarm goes off they dont have long before I'm whispering sweet nothings in there ears
 
the simplest security is park it away from a street loader reach,boxed in so it can't be moved easily.
older vehicles are at risk as the security is inaffective

What is the reason for stealing of all the defenders?
 
leave the transfer box in low ratio they won't get far lol

with a petrol you can disconnect the coil I suppose. anything that would slow them down. sadly you can't always stop them.
 
You can get battery isolators rated up to 600 amps peak and somewhere about 400 constant i have one for my winch
 
if u have a spare steering wheel put the crud one on n greese it up so they wouldn't be able to steer it :D
 
nice and quick mate if you cant get to the battery would pulling the main fuses out hinder the buggers and chain it to the van in front if you can.
 
I like the fuse idea. I know it's easy for them to carry some spare fuses but doubt they will be that organised. Which fuses are best to pull? I'll eventually figure out a way to lock the fuse box cover so they can't get to it to replace/bypass them. Once I pick up my welder I'll also be making a locked box around the ignition barrel. Didn't have any luck in halfords so it's going to be a long night sat in the window with a bottle of talisker and a metal bar. Got a diy alarm rigged up in there rather ingeniously if I do say so myself and a steering lock back on the bottom half of the wheel that they didn't cut. Even the copper who came out (congrats to Cheshire police, officer and csi out within an hour to a relatively unimportant crime) thinks they will be back tonight. Disconnected the battery and will be removing a wheel after dinner.

Disconnect the arm from the steering drop arm. Make sure you bring the bolt for it into the house though.;)

Removing the engine earth straps should help if you can't get to the battery anorl.

You could also put yer landy into neutral on the transfer box and then disconnect the linkage.

As for fuses, you want to remove the ones under the bonnet at the rear of the engine bay on the passenger side.
