my Deestone extra tractions need replacing, been fairly happy with them but a bit noisy, ive seen ATS do rangemaster 7.50/80 R16 at a reasonable price but they couldn't tell me what outside diameter they were to compare with the Deestones

Has any one bought these tyres from ATS , normal Rangemasters are 7.50 x R16 , but I cannot find a height/OD for the 80 profile tyres they sell , if you have these fitted what do you think of them and can you tell me the OD

the well worn Deestones look about 30.5" measured on vehicle so I don't want to go too much smaller or bigger in case it affects the driving

I always thought that the '7.50' IS the height of a sidewall and not the width (unlike 'metric' sizes where the first figure is the width) I don't know what the 80 could stand for in this instance. You have to see one close up and measure it. If 7.50 is the width in inches then that equates to 190.5mm so narrower than a 205 and 80% of that would be 152.4 mm which is 6" so 6 + 6 + 16 = 28" that seems a bit small. All my musings could be wrong maybe someone else has first hand experience of these.
 
Having just been on the ATS website, by the look of the picture, that is a standard 7.50R16 Avon Rangemaster, standard factory fit to Land Rover for years. I think the '80' has been put in there to make it fit the computer search facility, I doubt you'll find '80' stamped anywhere on that tyre.
 
Thanks that sounds interesting, they are not advertised widely like that so could be the case , I thought the 7.5 is the tyre width and then the aspect ratio say 80% gives the sidewalk height. I rang Avon on Friday who said they sold out to Cooper tires a few years ago, rang cooper tyres and given another number , then googled them and same day was announced 350 jobs going at same factory , so didnt wish to push my petty enquiry with them any further
 
I have Rangemasters on mine.

They fit and go round and everything.
They went on defender steel wheels as they are tubeless.
Not much more to say really. I like em because they are narrow and look series and they upset the balloon tyre brigade.
 
I have Insa turbo's on mine,and you do not know what noisey is unless you have had Greenway MT's fitted.;) You won't get them now, the company is long gone.
 
What outside diameter are they and what engine is yours top speed ok and acceleration ok , is Yours the straight 7.5 x R16 or the 80 variant if they are actually made
750x 16s from the local fitter. I rarely exceed a speed designed for a series so 50mph is a max for me.
As with most 4x4 tyres it’s very hard to get them balanced and they did everything bar weld on a club hammer to get them somewhere near.
Other than that I’ve never measured them. They are reasonably quiet and grip well on anything I try but I don’t go mad on a 53 year old chassis.
 
I'm inclined to agree that the "80"has more to do with the IT system than the tyre. A "100" tyre is circular in section so you can add 2 x the width to the dia. With "100" tryes which is what they all were it didn't matter whether it was height or width. Once the low profiles came in at "90" then "80" you had to take this % to get the hieght. I use 235/85/16 which are near as damn it 7.5 rolling rad (.8x235/25.4=7.8"). I don't think the computer systems have "100" in so they put a notional % on. What does it actually say on the tyre?
 
Long wait to get these from ATS , new batch just been made well happy the size is 750 without any 80 profile , that constant droning noise has gone from the tyres not the wife , the ride is softer than the deestones and seems a better top speed, 4 tyres and tubes fitted for £462
