Are bearmach indicator stalks as useless as britpart

I've got a 1000 things wrong with my series 3 so I'm starting with the easiest and cheapest , I've already had 2 Britpart indicator stalks in 5 years , obvious issues with melting points , have been advised to get a lucas one , bit pricier but I expect they are worth it , however I've never bought any bearmach parts , can anyone give a (subjective) review of the quality thanks , are they somewhere between Britpart and Lucas ?
 
My first replacement was a britpart one and lasted almost a year. The twangy bit snapped off that resets it so it had to go. The bearmach one has lasted three or four years since and is still going strong.

I bought a Lucas one last year as one of the plastic self-cancelling arms had broken on mine. However it's not the same as the original - doesn't use the same bracket under the column to attach to, and the curve profile of the switch body didn't match the curve of the column itself! I wish I'd just looked out for a good second-hand (but original) one now.

its quite likely to be different, lucas built in england in lucas factories is long gone its a brand name now, its parts are going to be better quality pattern parts
 
There's a thread running on here at the mo about the quality of Bearmach parts, (AKA "panstmark), which seems to have become something of a lottery :(

As JM says ( post #5), "lucas" don't exist any more - it is simply a brand ... so my choice would probably be a decent second hand one, which both weird and worrying all at the same time o_O
 
I recently fitted a cheap indicator stalk, don't know what make it is, (unbranded), but I thought it was worth a punt for the price. My Lucas one burned out the main beam contact after nine years but not a lot of use at night. I did notice that the light switch was getting hot as well, so the solution was obvious: fit headlight relays, which I have been threatening to do for years. This was the push I needed. Result: headlights much brighter and 'pressure' taken off the switch gear. No more hot switches... I am yet to see how long the cheap dip-switch lasts but I have to say that it looks exactly like the Lucas one it replaces, its action is positive, it feels like 'quality' and I have hopes that it will prove satisfactory. I might take it off and have a look before binning it , all other functions apart from main beam are working it's strange as the light isn't actually operated by the stalk , however I know for a fact that it is the problem as ive had the same in the past , can anyone advise what wire colour operates the main beam so I can narrow it down , thanks

I would say its now worth keeping any orginal Lucas switches and refurbing them as the later replacements just don't seem to last. Most of the old stuff comes apart with a bit of levering and you can clean and rebuild contacts with a bit of solder.
 
I had to bleedin say it dint I.

My bearmach stalk has just stopped resetting after a right turn. Left seems to be OK.

Sod.
