ive seen this thing advertised and as ive said b4, not being a mechanical person wondered if this will be of any benefit to my defender ?
it just seems a really cool piece of kit (due to the fact i love gadgets) so anybody have one or know if they are worth having?
also im looking for a place that can sand blast and waxoyl the under belly of my beast?
thanx.

air lockers are good. all the trial comp drivers and winch chalenge boys use em. they are freaking expensive though and i dont think they are very easy to fit.

the system basically uses compressed air to lock the diffs... i think.

unless your off doing really tech. trails and lanes alot of the time i dont think its worth it. unless you have a disposable income.

I use a Kam Locker in the front of my Disco. 'tis bloody great! Just when you think your stuck, flick the switch and all of a sudden your on the way again!

theres an arguement over which is the best axle to fit a locker to, front or rear. Mine is on the front because I have more suspension movement in the rear axle (most landys do) therefore I am more likely to lose traction on the front. The problem is that I cannot use the locker with the steering too far off center as I may burst the CV joints.

Others put them in the rear axle on the basis that theres more movement in the rear so your morelikely to have both wheels on the ground at one time. the disadvantage with this is that you'll have no driuve to the front axle, the front diff will just allow the floatying wheel to spin.

Although I had a bit of a problem with the initial install of the Kam locker, I'd heartily recommend them. the guy that owns the company (Kevin) isn'y just an engineer, he's an off-roader too. Innovation through expectation not met is generally a good way to go. Once you price up the cost of the ARB locker, the compressor and the uprated halfshafts to take the additional strain, the KAM works out cheaper and because its electrically operated no-one knows when your using it! The other useful feature of the KAM diff is that it can be uprated to an LSD at some future point should you wish to do so.

Thats O.K. carlos dad, I didn't mind taking a bit of time out of my life to answer your question. It was an absolute pleasure. Thanks are uneccesary. Luckily.

Ignorant ****.

WOW!!!
no need to freak, maybe im very busy and working alot? i did see your answer and thanx for the info.
mybe you need a holiday dude?

Maybe you need to learn some netiquette. You had the time to read it but not to put in a simple "ta!" On the net that would normally result in a death sentance. Today I am in a good mood. Today your punishment will be this.

Tsk Tsk.

Job done.

once again im sorry
shall i hold my hands out so you can spank my palms with a ruler? ooh! sir, not too hard, sir!;)

'Twas a good post indeedy, and I would thank you for airing your views Sheddy. Could I add that if I was in a position financialy to get a difflocker, which incidentally I won't 'cos I'm extremely poor, I to would put it on the front axle because I believe that it would be better to keep the drive to the "steering" wheels. For the same reason I like to put the tyres with better grip on the front.

Ah yes, but diff locks put the same amount of drive to both wheels on the same axle. This means that you can't steer the front wheels hard to one side as it has a tendancy to burst the CV joints.

Like I said, advantages and disadvantages to each theory.
