yup - get yoself a 2007 heater box - it has a bigger matrix.

riteo, any idea where i can get hold of one?breakers yard?is they a real technical thing to change?wood a hole lotta tools, a haines manual and a free weekend do th job?

I'm considering getting a different make of heater from a kit car manufacturer. Mount it to the bulkhead, adapt the output from it to fit through the rectrangular hole into the cab and bob in theory is your uncle. then just adapt the control mechanisms somehow.

alternatively a 12volt heater. or a very small actual radiator from a house, plumbed in to the water and mounted on the rear bulkhead.

Then again I might just wear gloves

ahhhhhh i think i'l skip the central heating and jus brave it out

1. flush out the heater matrix with the garden hose.
2. fit a hotter thermostat - try 92 degrees for the winter.

The heater should be better than you describe.

Way back when I had my 2.6 Safari, I took 15mm copper pipes under the car and fitted a HUGE fan blown car heater box in the back. It worked very well.
