Ok i bypassed the bloody thing directly from the battery, and they both work, so its either some frigging sensor, or the wirings not plumbed in right. anyone have any SENSIBLE (this excludes Briggsy) on what to do next? dam im so crap at leccy stuff
hi,if you look on fleabay there are fan kits that go into the top hose via an aluminium hose connector which is fitted with a sensor, this is then wired via a relay to your fans, when your engine reaches its desired temp the fans will kick in,cheers gemsdad:)

I thought that on the rangie the fans were controlled ina complicated and technical manner like the hippoo? I think its controlled by a becm or summat which responds to engine temp sensors, cabin temp sensors, air con switches and all sort if crap. My betting is that yu have problems within this system- most likely a sensor or switch. If you look at the Rave and read the theory of operation, you mite be able to check each sensor out or bypass the controller.

What i did was drive it to work and back, the air con wont kick in at all, you can usually tell if it is trying to work by looking at the rev counter, it will rev an extra 500 (or there abouts) or so revs (just a slight flicker actually) and do the same when it turns itself off after reaching the right temperature, well its not doing that at all. and i have no book coming up

I would go back to the first answer you got from Irishrover, from the way you describe it there doesn't seem to be a problem - of course your car will run hotter on a warm day in slow traffic. The more you go fiddling with things under the bonnet the more you distrurb, let sleeping dogs lie.

The two fans are controlled (On the V8 anyway) by a pressure switch in the aircon gas line, when the gas pressure rises past a certain level-working it's ba*ls off in very hot ambient temperatures, the fans cut in to cool the gas down and therefore reduce the pressure, either one or two fans will come on depending on what the switch calls for via the HEVAC.
As the Sage from Basingstoke has mentioned, there is also an output via the engine ECU and ECU water temperature sensor (NOT the gauge sensor) that, in the event of the coolant getting excessively hot, the fans will be switched on to assist the engine fan. This function can be checked with diagnostics related to the engine ECU.
My aircon is ice cold, no cheque book symbol and I have not heard my fans come on either. Both pressure switches have been renewed a couple of years ago and the function checked with the Rovacom and, yes they come on when forced.
If the aircon is warm, 98% cause of either no gas, compressor clutch slipping or compressor gone. With aircon on LO, engine running, one pipe to the compressor should be hot and the other freezing cold.

The wife took it up there 2day, anyway the A/C guy found a lose connection (she hasn't got a clue what he told her) but she has tried to show me by pointing to the general aria ( lol ) looks like somewhere around the condenser aria, apparently there was a wire hanging down (i did see it) and there's a box there too ???? and there was a lose connection, so in other words she hasn't a clue and was hoping she was pointing in the right place, anyway its fixed now, i will phone him 2morrow and see what it was, so at least i can say just in case its a fault we should all have some knowledge of, and how to fix it etc
