Anyone with a Disco and towbar

This is becoming a real pain in the ars........rear.

Right, the 2 bolts on my ORIGINAL Land Rover towbar that go up through the box section are shot. So is the points where they are supposed to fit snug. So rather than try and weld a fifty pence size hole, twice, i can just change the towbar to one that doesnt use them 2 holes.

Ive been told loads do it, but i cant find any diagrams of actual towbars that arent standard Landy ones.
So.......

Is there any chance of any kind member taking a photo of your towbar so i can verify that i can purchase one that doesnt utilise the 2 holes through the box section. I just need a couple or three shots from the towball straight on, and side on please.

And while you've got the camera out, if ya wife is good looking.....................JOKE JOKE :D
 
Yes but that picture is "for illustration" only, not the actual item.
And you cant access the fitting instructions for their bar until you have bought it and they give you a code.

that sort of towbar is for a gaylander only all the disco ones are the same as you got
 
FFS, this is gonna be a real pain.
At best i can re-weld some form of bracket to help strengthen the already rusted bit, otherwise its replace all the rear box section behind bumper.

I am ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED i have seen a towbar that doesnt use or utlise those two holes.
 
i would 12" long plate on top and bottom at lest 5mm thick then drill your holes in that
 
Thanks James, but them pics show the problem ive got.
The big drop plate that the towball is bolted to. If you look at it, side on pic, you can see the head of a bolt at the top going up underneath the bumper, well they are the ones that are the problem.

I could, but i dont need it to pull 4 ton, so if i can buy another bar it would be a damn site easier.


And id be more happy that it was solid.
 
I thought you just wanted pics, so I did one for you.


Why not just weld the drop plate straight on to the car? then there is no need for the bolts.
 
I probably could, well i know someone who could, but id never feel completely happy with the result.

Im not having it that there is only ONE towbar type for the Disco.

Nope, not having it.

Ive just found a company on ebay who do a quick fit towbar for the Disco series 1.
I have emailed em for some pics, explaining my predicament, and im going into witters tomorrow as i only work opposite the place.

Ive seen em differently i tell ya, im not mad............
