Nice pics mate, was that your first time? I'm tempted to take mine apart and put a different ratio 5th gear in, but it looks like a pretty scary job to do.

How long did the complete job take?

I've done a couple of other makes before, it's been done over several spare moments. Because I've been obsessive with care and attention I guess it's 6-8 hours total and a couple of hours cleaning casing parts.
I'd suggest if you are a really keen diy mechanic, it's a good to do
1)take pictures -so you know where it all goes
2)prepare a clean work area
3) you will need access to a 41 mm socket/air gun and a press

Regards other question gain more from transfer box gear change(cheaper from scrapped discovery) or a kit from ashcrofts

The kit from ashcrofts is what I was referring to, the 225 quid 5th gear that they sell, just wasn't sure how much of a pain in the ass it would be to install myself. A disco transfer box is my other option like you said, so out of the two, is it easier to swap transfer boxes?
