Hi I was wondering if any of you have managed to, or thought of fitting gas strut bonnet lifters to your Freelander?

It would make me feel a little less worried of sticking my bonce under the heavy clamshell cover that tends to blow around in the wind!

Reckon we could retro fit one without much bother?

I miss it as a feature that most large road cars have nowadays.

you would need to weld the pivot points to the bonnet frame and to the inner wings/ bulkhead

personally i prefer a prop as they don't just let go like i have seen gas struts do!

They dont need welding - most are a ball ended bolt and could be screwed into a nutsert, preferably with penny washers to spread the load. Make sure they attach to something solid, not a flimsy inner wing structure.

The Freelander front wings are plastic, however my wheel nuts and rear door latch are not, and are rusting very nicely along with the underbody exhaust shield and pipe.

Thanks for the ideas Mat Hat Man, G - Man.
