Hi

I have a P38 2.5 DSE Auto with a couple of faults. I am in France at the moment and I am going to take it to the local LandRover specialist but I would prefer to have a vague idea of possible cures....?

The first problem is a juddering. It happens when I drive fairly quickly - say 40 MPH + and hit a bump in the road, it feels like a wheel is comming off? I have checked the wheel nuts and they are tight!?

The second is probably not as simple? It is losing oil, infact quite a lot of oil, maybe a patch the size of a cd? I am sure it is engine oil and it seems to be comming from the front of the engine. Are there any common leaks?

She is a leggy (150k +) 1997my.

Many thanks in advance!

Hell,I've just come back from Perpignan ! I only saw 2 p38 RR's in 2 weeks - sheer bliss !! Your steering is probably bad due to failing shocks/steering damper/radius arm bushes/anti-roll bar balljoints etc, etc. It needs a good check over,at that age mileage it is probably on its 2nd/3rd lot of drag link/track rod ends - no way to tell without looking.
Oil leaks around the front of the engine are usually the crimped joints on the oil cooler pipes - but again it really needs a good look over and possibly a steam clean and re-run to see where the leak starts.
Sorry to be a bit vague but you are a long way away.
Good luck !!

I AGREE WITH PREVIOUS POST IN THAT CRIMPED PIPES DO TEND TO LEAK.
tHERE ARE COMPANYS OUT THERE THAT CAN RECRIMP THEM, OR IF LIKE ME YOU ARE A BIT TITE, THEN I SUGGEST TAKING THE PIPE OFF AND BUYING ELECTRICAL HEAT SHRINK CABLE COVERS.
YOU PUT THEM OVER THE OFFENDING PART AND SHRINK THE COVER DOWN NICE AND TITE WITH A BLOW TORCH.

GOOD LOOK.

Thanks for the quick replies! I have spent the evening underneath the car after a good steam clean and the oil leak is comming from the block end of a oil cooler pipe if not the gasket itself.

I have just had the wheel bearigs changed so I hope its not them! Like you say I think I will get the garage to have a good look over it!

Thanks for the suggestions! Drive carefully!
