this bollocks about distilled water came about because of batteries getting shorted out by the stuff that was in yer drinkin water years ago. these daze yer water is has so much less crap in it yer can use tap water fer yer batteries and the like.. in hard water the calcium dunt come out the water till it reaches a temp of 100°c ish, so in normal use yer int gonna get any build up from yer hard water
 
Can I flush out the system using the garden hose through the rad?

What position is the heater valve open in?, ive never really used the heater, and the labeling has worn off the cab slider, so I dont know whats hot and whats cold! (not much difference in an S3 i wouldnt think--useless in both positions!)
 
Right have finally sorted it.
Im going to use 2.7 Antifreeze, and 5.40ltrs of water, then topped up with water to 12mm under the Rad filler.
 
Mad Hat said 8.1 Ltrs in total. And the LR workshop manual states that 2:1 should be ok, so the ratio 2.7:5.40 should be right.

The LR workshop manual states, add 4.5ltrs of water, then "add solution" (whatever that is) then top up with water to 12mm from the filler cap.

yer home tap water might well be up to spec then but the fresh water we produce on the platform i work on is nay!!
 
not yet like but im tryin to smuggle one on board to work on while i'm off shift, havin bother gettin the engine through the metal detector at the airport tho, security weren't buyin my "its an old type of ipod" excuse.......
