Answer to Ulez illegal tax

I have two SWB Landies, one powered by a 2.5 dirty diesel built by Rover which will be taxed by SK and his henchmen whilst the other is powered by a 2.5 dirty diesel built by Rover which is saving the planet and not subject to the SK tax. Er... hold on read that again, both SWB Landies, both with 2.5 Diesels built by Rover.

So what's the difference, the tax free Landy has black and white number-plates from the factory, its a 1968 S2A, the other has yellow number-plates from the factory, its a 1986 90 SWB.

Any historic owners with yellow plates from the factory may be worth checking... don't take it for granted your safe :(

Hope when I clean both I don't get confused and put my 88 plates on my 90. The 88 doesn't get used much and I could accidentally leave the black and white plates on! Well I'm older than my Series 2A so these things could happen... accidentally of course!

If the Series is historic reg. it will be exempt.

The Ninety can't be historic regged yet, so it won't be.

Not quite sure why your 64 2a has a 2.5 diesel? Should be a 2286cc. Maybe a retrofit 2.5NA?

Correct, the 88 had a refit with a 2.5NA engine. I believe a 19J. Told the insurance man and he said no problem as it's an accepted update due to age as long a it doesn't have a turbo. Bit like me really, the no turbo thing ;)

A 19j does have a Turbo, unless it has been removed. A 2.5 NA is a 12j, but there is little difference between a 12j and a de-turboed 19j.

As long as the vehicle is Historic Registered, it make no difference as regards ULEZ. The cameras read the number plate, they can''t see under the bonnet.

And if its the same colour could anybody on the end of a camera tell the diff between a series and a defender ;).

I don't think there is anyone on the end of the cameras, I think it is an automated system. Could be wrong about that.

Personally, I wouldn't be putting plates off another vehicle on anything.
It might work for ULEZ cameras, but could cause problems in the event of a theft or accident involving the vehicle.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the ULEZ has and will continue to expand in every city in the country. It's also not illegal. Unfortunately, putting plates from another vehicle onto yours most certainly is.

But.. the police politicians etc, etc people setting examples for us to follow, would say it's only illegal if you get caught, then you cry and say it was an honest mistake and you sincerely regret your actions 🙄
