I have just finnished fitting the new timing belt kit - I got a dayco kit. It's fitted now and is longer than the crappy unbranded thing I was sent as it slipped on without any tightness while putting the tensioner onto its peg. What the hell belt this was I don't know but the quality difference is easy to see between the 2 belts.

I got a new tensioner, pulley and gaskets too and it's all looking good now.

Beware of a £10.50 unbranded belt marked ETC550!

Just waiting for the rocker arm to arrive now then hopefully it's a gooer again.

Cheers tom.

not sure what that etc550 is all about. 300tdi should be ERR1092 btw :)

good luck, hopefully this fixes it all!

Mine is a disco 200 tdi iv just checked the part no on this belt and it says says ETC550 too but is marked dayco. The other belt had no markings on it at all but the packet had the same part no. On.

not sure why i thought you had a 300, 200tdi is ETC8550 :)

Well like an idiot iv made a verry stupid and embarrassing mistake. My head was a mess due to been on nights and waking up mid day and started to Finnish my repairs. I put the timing pin into the injector pump to adjust it slightly and then forgot to take it out when I went to start it.

Gutted is an understatement and I'm ashamed of myself! The pin was stuck in so I had to strip it all back down and the injector pump timing hole is smashed.

Iv tried to time it back in using the remains of the hole but I can't get the timing right! It runs but verry rough and smokey.

Is there a way to time it back in as it only looks to have damaged the timing hole part?

Or would you recon it's a new injector pump time?

Any advice would be great, from a very ashamed tom.

Wel I'm 99.9% sure iv got it timed up right with the belt on, it starts instantly and doesn't smoke much. The problem is that it rough idles and won't rev properly. I'm starting to think it's something to do with the rocker arm iv replaced as it looks different to all the others. The part no. Is the same but the metal part is a lot shallower than the others.

Could this be my problem? Iv ordered a set of feeler gauges so I can set them correctly - it the setting was out on the new rocker arm would this cause the problem I have?

When tensioning the belt you need a flex type torque wrench not a break type as the belt will be to tight, with your experience you wont need the tool do it by feel.

I'm pretty certain the timing belt and timing are spot on but it's running really rough now! I'm not sure what the problem will be. The cam sliders looked fine I'm just a bit suspect of the replacement rocker arm been a lot shallower.

I find that more and more often britpart/Allmakes belts auxiliary or timing, tend to be too small and a right squeeze to get on

When the piston is at the top of its travel there in only a couple of millimetres between it and the closed valves.

One piston will hit the first substantially open valve that it meets.

How loud the bang will be depends on the revs being used and how far the offending valve is open at the time.
