just say that if you take the head off you will probably find minute cracks round the valves which causes excessive pressure build up in the cooling system,this has been confirmed in another thread on the forum.:eek::eek:
 
tried a 32mm spanner, and bashing it with a hammer thinking the impact would loosen it; unfortunately the play in the belt means the hub won't stay still enough while I do it!
 
Finally got viscous coupling undone, after deciding that need to get the damm thing off now and then, justified the expense of raiding the :5bpiggy: to get the proper tool. Still took a lot of plusgas and a hammer!

The next challenge became the pully which was well and truely rust welded onto pump, again copious amounts of plusgas and a hammer got me there in the end.:frusty:

This instantly answered all my questions, as you'll see below:

Are the impellers usually plastic?? certainly the replacement is metal! Now all I've got to do is get it all back together, inbetween the showers:mad:. Also going to use a bit of copperslip to make sure next time it's a smoother job.

Hello, My first post so go easy.
I bought my (97) 2.5 DSE about a month ago and have had alsorts of problems so far, the most serious of all the overheating.
If towing our 23' caravan or 'booting' uphill I overheat. If I operate the sunroof for just a second, the guage drops back to normal!!!
Has anyone come across this or have any ideas how the 2 are linked?? I suspect an earthing problem somewhere.
If your 2.5 overheats, can you try this and let me know if yours does the same???
Could be that these engines arn't overheating, just the dash pod is suffering from a bad connection. (or am I clutching at straws?).
