Disco 2 Another 3 amigos thread

Hi All,

This is my first post here. I have read several 3 amigo threads on here.

So here goes. Last night the 3 amigos cam on when breaking on an off exit on the motorway. As it is a Sunday I have not had the codes read yet. What I can say though Is I don't appear to have shot bearings or hubs as I have checked them on all 4 corners. ABS also seems to be working as if I nail and then break as if I am going to run Mila Jovovich over, the ABS kicks in....so that stumps me a bit. My discs are a bit pitted and pads are about 50% worn so wonder if this would cause the 3 amigos?

Until I get it down the garage for the codes to be read does anyone have any ideas?

If you've read a few posts about the 3 amigos then you'd know by now that the only sure way of finding out what is causing it is to get some diagnostics on the vehicle.
It can be expensive if you try to fix things without knowing what's faulty.

Of course I know I need the codes read, which I am going to try and get done on Monday...just though I would ask just in case if anyone interested I will post my findings.
As it turns out I had an advisory on the discs on my last MOT.......MOT is due on 19th Jan, so it may just be my discs are fecked....either way I will replace discs and pads on all 4 corners anyway. Hubs and bearings were solid. So it must be a sensor or the expensive ujamaflip.

In most cases, the ABS sensors, particularly on the front can't be changed in isolation, it usually means a new hub.
The cheapest fault to fix is the ABS Shuttle Valve Switch plate. Very often it's not even necessary to replace the switch plate, the problem is in the connector inside the ABS modulator and there is a well known and documented modification to correct that fault.
As I said, get the codes read, you might be surprised.

you can change front sensors but it often a sign of failing bearing which may not be felt or heard yet

So the code was rear right sensor. Cleared the code and it has not re-occurred. So totally stumped now.

Dont be, it will come back sooner or later... it happens when there is a play in the reluctor ring so when it'll become more ''insistent'' you'll have to replace the hub, it's not compulsory to feel a play in the bearing for that to happen

So you think the hub/bearing is on the way out then? I need to replace and discs and pads all round, so is it worth doing the hub then?

hi just done my front hub/sensor cost a fair few quid though,
the amigos disappeared,then i found the cause a chaffed wire
in the engine bay.oh well thats a land rover for you..

Well as some of you said the 3 amigos came back.

So hub replaced at the weekend all seems good. I can tell you it was a complete bastard getting the hub off! I locked the hub of with a crow bar to stop it turning when trying to undo the stake nut, I used a 3/4" breaker bar with 6foot scaffold pole.......it snapped the crow bar!!!! 5 minutes with the blow torch and another crow bar, the nut came off. The next issue was getting the hub off the half shaft!....that threaded my hub puller. So half shaft with the hub on the end, hub in vice...large center punch and club hammer....loads of whacking and eventually the half shaft is out.

Oh and the hub was cheap as chips:

so happens it the same as Paddocks...only massively cheaper.

Don't be amazed if you'll get some erratic TC behaviour with that cheap hub though
