Android tablet now working in dash. Works quite well for Sat-Nav & Music, but now I want a faster CPU !!

  • Charger spliced directly into cigarette lighter feed, so switches with ignition
  • Auto-sleeper App switches everything to Standby when power goes off.
  • Poweramp App seems to work best for music
  • TomTom and Waze both work ok, but need to get SIM for 3G. Using phone WiFi Hotspot as temporary data connection

Used old flea-bay panel to cut & fit, so original dash panel stored away in case I want to revert to standard cubby hole.

I really like that too, nice job...
Its time for an upgrade me thinks.
This is what Ive had for a couple of years now, with a/v inputs and an aux leisure battery .
I can change my cameras to wireless then.

Nice job. Now, if we can get that to talk to a bluetooth OBD plug-in, and have an app to read all the info in zebcrs' post with the touch screen replacing the lcd one, we could have an all-singing-all-dancing media/info centre.

Any brainy gits out there?
 
at moment it's using Bluetooth for the audio feed to Stereo, but no reason why OBD adapter won't work. I have a BT OBD, so will try later.

Which post by zebcrs ??

Pretty much. Donor panel from a breaker, cut out cubby hole and fit/shape/fill and paint to fit tablet. 12v socket spliced into cig lighter feed with USB 2A adapter. I reused parts of the cut-offs to tidy up the edges.
Only point I would add to watch out for, the bottom edge of the panel mates with the one from the stereo area so must be clear, ie, nothing used to mount tablet can stand proud here. I used 2 'L'-shaped bits of wood to hold the top edge (screws visible - not painted yet) and strips of the dense packing foam that came with the tablet hot-glued around the bottom and sides.
I also had to permanently mount the micro USB end of the cable into the surround of the air temperature sensor fan affair in the left of the panel. Easily done with hot glue holding it in place.

As per picture, Pete said he used aluminium bars. Didn't have any of that so wood sufficed :)
