alternator fault in p38 1996

the message center in my p38 ( lcd ) displayed today morning the following message : alternator fault . what that means ? and what i have to do ?
n.b : I changed the battery one month ago roughly .
any idea please ?

As said check your alternator. Is the red battery light lit up at all??
