hello everyone,i just brought a 98 landrover discovery when i test drove it it seemed ok when i brought it home i'v noticed some play in the steering enough that it scared me.does anyone know what causes that? please help i want to enjoy this suv with my kids..

Does it happen with the wheel in the straight position or at full left or right lock?
Mine does is at full lock with the engine off, other wise it is fine whilst driving, which is where you want it.

I took an early TD5 disco for a test drive before finding my old 300tdi. The 5 was all over the place with steering. I said there all like that. The wife said no! I am glad she did because the old dog I have now at least steers straight but the down side is it pogos like a fat bird on a space hopper.

Can be caused by a no of things.----Worn drop armball joint. Loose worn/ bearings Worn track rod ends, steering damper poorly adjusted steeringbox loose belt. Poor shock absorbers and springs. A combination of some or all of these faults.

A long shot, but too much air in your tyres can cause wandering on the road.
