Is that what storey calls the '0x12 0x0012 Microcomputer if so would it not bring that up as a fault code ?

As I have never had this working since I have owned the car, I have just been reading RAVE and it says,

the parking switch is none latching push switch on the centre console for selecting the system on and off.
When pressed the switch connects a ground to the PCD ECU an orange led light above the switch indicates when the PCD system is active.

So do you actually have to switch this on for this to operate, or does it do it automatically when you begin to park up.

A non latch switch is a momentary switch that activates or deactivates the parking system. If it's off it won't work. Ask Storey he has been on here today.

PDC activates automatically when you select reverse...

OR if you press the switch.

Just because the PDC ECU isn't throwing a code saying the ECU is in fault doesn't mean it isn't - as I said previously, diagnostics only show what the ECU wants it too....if the ECU is throwing a wobbler and is giving spurious faults....unless the PDC ECU knows it has a fault itself it won't show a microprocessor fault...

Only way to test is try a known good one....as you have changed the supposed faulty component and have checked the wiring....next is to change the control unit...

Saying that, the PDC system does need both 'gongs' fitted to the unit (the front and rear sounders)....check all connections to the PDC ECU for signs of corrosion and etc....

The PDC Unit is a known fail item!

Surely not if it's switched off. What is the point of having an off switch if it switches on automatically?

Ok I will do a continuity test tomorrow.

Cheers lads

Surely not if it's switched off. What is the point of having an off switch if it switches on automatically?

The switching logic is thus...

With ignition on PDC is operated either by selecting reverse or pressing the switch....

You can switch it off manually once it has been activated by pressing the switch...it will then not turn on again even if you select reverse again...BUT if you turn the ignition off and then back on again...it will automatically switch on when reverse is selected again!

I have the same fault up, a new rear left unit didn't do it, I checked all wiring, all seemed OK, so if you find the fault tell us all please.

Allcomms clears the fault but it doesn't work.

I don't hear clicking but don't really know what I'm supposed to be listening for.

At the moment I'm trusting the rear towbar. Oh and its a detachable one which I have no idea how to detach.

How on earth did these cars get through testing.

Have you tried reading the owners manual ?

I only have RAVE and ALLCOMMS kit no manual, I will just prod n poke, I got it on so there must be a simpleton answer to this somwhere.

Anyway back to the PDC, I dont need it but the wife has a weekly trip to her special salon!!! which has a tight car park to have her Barnet quaffed and Nails chopped, thats her Range Rover night, and she would like it more so because if she scraps it she does tend to say "oh and a Micra jumped out on me from behind the lampost thats how I kerbed the wheels".:)

I run a succesful Valet Parking Service at The Airport and I tell all my drivers not to rely on PDC, get out if in doubt and check....:crazy_driver:

Anybody know how much the PDC ECU are new as you can't rely on a second-hand one
My new ECU got delivered today, plugged it in, cleared the fault and it is still the same  so the only thing I can think of is a broken wire, but why is the sensor still ticking when I test the sensor's  Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the rear PDC.
