Aldi Tool Bargains......

LED Worklamp £4.99.... Slightly rubberised so doesn't slip out of your hand, Takes 3 x AA batteries included. fairly strong magnet, strong enough to hold it on a vertical surface, also a hook with a ball joint so can be positioned at any angle. Seems fairly robust so should be able to take a few knocks and bangs.

All in all good value for the price, only one criticism, the battery cover comes off a bit to easily and fell off a few times, nothing that a bit of electrical tape didn't cure

6 Piece file set. £7.99....Fairly cheap handles which will no doubt will fall off in time with enthusiastic use, The files themselves seem fairly good quality. however I bought them to clean up brake calipers so I think they should withstand light use and remain in one piece

They did have a Torque wrench for £15.99 with a rating of 28-240NM but doesnt go low enough for my needs, there are mixed reviews on the net about them.

Last of all.......... WD40 £1.99 for 300ml, not a lot to say about that one apart from bargain...

Never been a fan of aldi stuff. Cheap Chinese tat. I much prefer lidl and they've got some good tools in at the moment

The files have made in germany written on them, as I said I think they will be ample for light work

bought a few bits and pieces of tools from lidl and aldi had no problems up to now

, if you buy them for light/occasional use, or even just because they might come in handy, they are usually good enough, sometimes very good, certainly for the money. If you are buying them to use every day, then your likely to be disappointed

Not the case - i'm sure some bits are sourced from China, but, majority isn't.

Although it is quite different from Lidl - Lidl is basically a German company selling German sourced products in the UK. Aldi is locally run in each country, each with it's own buying department sourcing it's own products - they keep an eye on what each other is doing, but, it means you normally get quite different products in the different countries - there is also the Aldi North and Aldi South groups (2 brothers fell out and split) some countries belong to Aldi North, some to Aldi South.

had a brand new aldi store open yesterday here in clacton on sea,
so as you do, went in to look at the mens toys..
store was packed, so only bought one of them pulse chargers,
a set of ratchet ring spanners,
and to make it look good some crumpets

cans of soup & big bag of fruit & nuts.
charger works great, crumpets were nice, fruit & nuts - gone..
not used ratchet spanners but lubed the ratchets already - I do that!!

also bumped into a nice lady from a suffolk laners group too... Hi..lol

bout 2 years ago me mate bought a mortice machine from aldi as a sort of stop gap till his business takes off enough to be able to upgrade to a semi industrial one

in the last 2 years its trenched out on average 20 table legs at 4" doing a 22mm trench evry day till last tuesday when it finally got killed by me ( burnt the motor out by doing 60 legs non stop )

for the £50 it cost id say its done its moneys worth and takes pride of place in the tool cupboard where the broken things rest in peace

rachet ring spanners be careful with them they are good but, they do break (mate still not speaking to me) crack the nut bolt first ;-)

I got a cheep tap-die set from Netto (RIP)

used the 5mm one today to tap out the clutch cylinder cover hole which were FUBAR

good advice indeed tiwm.

over the years I had bought - ruined - used lots of tools,
I even got a sence of ftlbs built into my hands and arms,
so as you say, if its not budging at the first grunt, then tougher soloutions are needed.
example.
had to do my first disco 200 cambelt last year.
had a read in haynes, read on here...
made my own full grunt tools - crankshaft holder made from metal checker plate I had in my shed,
socket for crankshaft bolt - made from an imperial one from tool box, was "good fit" cut a lump of scaffold tube same length of parrelel socket, slit the tube, squeased it over socket-welded it up, then welded it to fubard ex 1/2 inch rachet, now the bit I`m getting too,
my torque wrench was a 6foot length of scaffold

but after years of using my inbuilt torque wrench, you just get the feel for it....
been repairing/building engines since i was still at school, been repairing anything mechanicle same time, got a shed full of tools (not bragging - fact)
still got my snap on toolbox from engineering days filled with mics-dial guages, taps&dies - you name it - I even forget just whats inside now after 10 years on no use,
you see, I work - have worked, with my hands since when I could walk I guess.

as you dont know me from adam, I`ll accept your good honest wise words though my friend "thought it was mine"
