Hi where abouts is alarm receiver on 2001 3door td4. We have got no alarm fobs for car. And was going to buy 2 off eBay and get them recoded. But I have seen you can get receiver and 2 fobs together. Is it just a matter of changing receiver over and job done. If so where is the receiver located. Is it dash out or easier than that. Any advise appreciated.:D:D

RF receiver for the fobs is behind/on top of dash display. UK spec is 433meg hz. Part no YWY100460. Unit in the roof is the internal movement sensor.

Look through the steering wheel towards the rev counter and then upwards. There's 2 screws. There may be a few more I can't remember at the moment. Once these screws are out wobble the plastic to see. This will allow you to remove the top oval cover over the dash display. The RF remote interface is the green thing in the middle of the pic.

Thank you got Haynes manual but it gives no info on where alarm bits are. Now I know where to start stripping.
Cheers for all replies:D:D:D

Yeah I know but for price of 2 fobs I can get receiver as well, so I'm hoping because they all came of same car and are working its just a matter of changing over reciever and not recoding fobs.

I think the fobs will still need to be programmed to the Freelander. It's the code the fobs sends to the car which allows it to accept open/lock commands. It's the security computer that checks the codes.

Worth a shot for what it's cost me £35 for 2 fobs and alarm receiver if it still needs recoding I've not really lost that much. I'll let you know if it works either way just for future reference for any other member.

Well got it fitted and like has been said it still needed coding to car. Grand total £70 for two fobs and coding so not that bad really.

If I get time I may put back old receiver to see if fobs still work. Least then I know I can keep/sell working receiver???

It will work with the old receiver, you could try selling it,they are reliable so not much in demand.
