P38A airbag fault

For what its worth, I would get the Schraeder valves for inflating. Agreed not needed if well maintained but much better than driving home at 35 mph
 
I can almost stop it so guess I cocked up replacing the o rings and bits.
Will need to look into diaphragm repair

Does almost stop it mean it is blowing air past your finger and you can't stop it? It is fairly easy to judge run compressor put your finger over outlet with moderate pressure and air should blow past your finger. New diaphragm is an easy job.
 
OK ordered a full eas washer kit so over the weekend (if it arrives) I'm going to replace washer and redo the pump. I think I must have damaged the seal on the piston causing the low pump pressure does this sound right? Need to do the diaphragm but if I'm going to do that might as well do everything. Am I asking for trouble?
 
  1. When you did the piston seal, did you also check the cylinder liner ? Usually part of the kit.
  2. Also check the compressor reed valves & little o-rings. If these are wrong thickness you don't get much pressure.
 
Per Wammers HowTo . . . .check the o-ring thickness. Also re-check the reeds are correctly seating.

NOTE:- The OEM or Dunlop compressors are made abroad, some are fitted with a Japanese spec O'ring under the exhaust reed. 1.83 mm cross section. If this O'ring is replaced in refurb by one of the O'rings usually sent out in this country 1.78 mm cross section, in some cases the thinner O'ring will not protrude above the top of the recess as it should. The exhaust reed MUST sit flush onto this O'ring or the compressor will not work correctly. The new O'ring if it falls below the top of the recess MUST be spaced out until 1/3 of it sits above the top of the recess to accept the exhaust reed. Make up a suitable .50 mm packer and secure O'ring and packer in place with silicone sealant.
 
Valve block just been rebuilt, reseated exhaust o ring, replaced pump piston seal again. Guess what I must have a leak somewhere as I am no longer getting error messages or flashing lights at the button but after about 10 mins the piece of c##p won't rise off bump stops. I'm cold and fed up with her just being a pain, I just want to drive her again or get rid and look at something else maybe a wee 2 seater

Anyone want to buy her or sell me a set of springs and I'll dump the air.
 
So if you leave front door open, and let it run, does the compressor now fill the tank, and eventually shutoff ? If not you still have leaks somewhere.

The tank needs to have plenty of air to get it off the bump stops.
 
I haven't found the leak got too dark and cold to be bothered last night. I've replaced all the seals in the pump so hope it's not the prob now. Ran the engine with doors open and didn't fill the tank.

Anyone in North Ayrshire with a free Sunday afternoon fancy having a look as springs don't look that expensive or hard to fit. Or fancy swapping for an old style mx5?
 
So with the door open the corner valves will not operate, but the pump should run. At the same time as the pump runs the Diaphragm Solenoid Valve should open to force air into the tank. This is easy to check.
  1. Remove exhaust filter & the air-line that feeds tank.
  2. When the pump runs, check for air coming out of either tank feed, or exhaust port.
    • If there's air coming from exhaust port, then diaphragm valve or solenoid isn't working correctly.
    • If there's only air coming from tank port, then 1st measure pressure, and 2nd wait for tank to fill.
Also did you check the dryer is ok ? You can unscrew the top and check if the desiccant is ok or not.
