Air suspension problem.

I got the air springs fitted yesterday, and I have to say it was a far easier job than I thought it would be.

It took me a few hours in total but mostly because I also changed the rear shocks, cleaned off the area of chassis behind the air springs, applied Kurust and 2 coats of underseal.

I fitted the Dunlop springs and I was a bit dubious about having to chop off the original connector on the end of the pipes but the push-fit connectors seem to have worked fine.

I attempted to re-inflate the system this morning, for which I left the chassis propped on axle stands, with a trolley jack under the rear diff, so that I could check that the springs inflated properly. I was slightly perplexed when after several short bursts with the engine running they hadn't inflated, then I remembered that to use the high suspension setting all the doors must be shut, so I got in and shut the door and the springs inflated straight away.

Been busy with the family most of today but hopefully I should get it back on its rear wheels later tomorrow, then I can tackle the front shocks and EGR by-pass.

i have ordered the coil conversion kit few weeks ago, then realized how good the SLS system is so few days after i have ordered the airbag spacer kit to keep the bags..now car is sitting on her a$$ every morning, lucky i havent sent the coil conversion kit back, will just install them tomorrow..not really bothered with tracing the air leak etc etc, one less system to worry about i think

So the SLS system is good.... but you're going to take it out anyway?!!

Ahhhh!!!! you guys have me in two minds now!! :decision: i do like the air suspension and the fact that i can lower or raise to suit..... im just annoyed with it giving up on me :( my big grand plan is to gradually convert my disco 2 into an all rounder all terrain yet still everyday use vehicle.... with this in mind what would you lads recommend for reliabillity and ride comfort both on and off road :D thanks agin guys i really appreciate your expertise!!! :)

your disco 2 is already an all rounder, sls or coils is personal taste ,sls offers adjustable height but more to fail ,coils more stability and simplicity but heights fixed

I have to say the air suspension does seem to be quite a simple system and, the pump aside, the parts are quite reasonably priced. The air springs were only £55-00 each and the height sensors are available from about £20-00.

I think if you carry any weight (including seven passengers) regularly, or you tow a fair bit, then the SLS is well worth retaining.

I mentioned that one of our air springs was replaced when the car was seven years old but, interestingly, the one that has just failed was the original with a manufacture date of 10/99. So one lasted only seven years and the other managed fourteen.

Got the front shocks fitted during the week, and did the EGR by-pass kit yesterday evening.

All seems to be well, the whole car feels much more up-together, the ride is noticeable improved and the steering feels less wandery with the new damper.

Guys, i ripped out the bags.... to be honest i just wanted to have that little less to worry about , to be honest i don't miss the SLS, and the conversion was very straight forward so i would recommend it to anyone who couldnt be ar%*d messing around with any airbag or compreesor type issues that may occur.
I appreciate all the advice guys and thanks again

:(... and for those who dont want to mess around with tyre pressures or other tyre type issues the next move would be what thenguys with the hummer did :
