The exhaust is certainly far from perfect. I can't feel any obvious blowing, but it's chugging slightly, and rattles a lot when you take your foot off the gas. I can't check for long because it gets too hot to have my hands near after a shirt while. Perhaps it's all full of small perforations. It's been on there 22 years after all!

Substitution of known working ones is best solution at the moment if possible, if nothing’s noticable on Nanocom could get expensive shotgunning parts and hoping.

I agree with J that known faults are good place to start like exhaust.
Crank sensors do tend to play up when hot. If you blast it with a non-flammable aerosol and freeze it next time it plays up, if it rectifies issue is good sign that’s what it is.

Wiring to sensor and pins it reads can also play up and give same symptoms even if sensor is fine.

That plumbers freeze spray is a good call.
 
Consultation with @Doo suggests it probably is the CPS. He had the exact same symptoms, and it cured it so I'm going to try it first.

I need a drag link and track rod too, so I'm going to order some bits. I'll report back how I get on. Delivery of spares looks like it might take a while what with the virus.
 
Afternoon all.
So I'ver changed the CPS to little avail. It is a bit more responsive, but not much.
I still have the chugging under load so I need to find what's causing that.
Also, just now I've unplugged the MAF and the engine died. I thought it should keep running using the default fuel map or something? What does it ean when it just dies? It also wouldn't start with the MAF unplugged. Plugging it back in again resulted in the engine starting again no problem.....

I'm stuck.
 
A V8 should start without the MAF. The default behaviour is to start, die almost to a stop then pick up and run at normal idle.
 
I'll try it tomorrow morning when the engine is cold.

Also I'll get the spark plugs out and have a look at them. It feels like a misfire/stutter/hesitancy when under load. Maybe it's the HT leads or a coil pack or something.

The gear box isn't kicking down properly either. Sometimes I does, sometimes it takes a good while to actually change down.
 
Hopefully it is something as simple (but not cheap) as a set of leads or a coil pack. Pull the plugs and have a look at them as well. While you are eliminating bits and pieces, have you checked the fuel rail pressure? Perhaps it is low due to a blocked filter of failing pump. I see you are running LPG. Is this an issue on LPG, petrol or both?
