hi lads , ive changed the thermostat and now cant get rid of air in system ,would appreciate any help ,easiest way to do it please , after a few mile when engine gets hot the temp gauge goes up ..????? no leaks and no water loss ?????? header tank level stays the same .. what do i need to do many thanks in anticipation .mozz:):)

Hi Mozz, I don't know the V8 but on most motors engine idling, cap off expansion tank and rapidly squeezing and releasing the rad pipes helps. On my P38 Diesel and my MR2 jacking or ramping the front of the car up also helps the air to find it's way out.
Check the pipe from the rad header to the expansion tank is not blocked.

Did you blow through the radiator vent hose to clear any air-lock...?

If you squeeze the rad hose too sharply with the cap off you may well spill coolant all over your engine bay. Don't ask how I know this.

Here's what RAVE has to say about refiling the coolant. Clearing the rad breather seems to be an important step.

Step 1 - Buy a Mac
Step 2 - Open RAVE in Adobe Reader.
Step 3 - Shift Command 4 brings up the cross-hairs
Step 4 - left click and drag around what you want to screen grab
Step 5 - Screen Grab is saved to the desktop.
Step 6 - Attach to your post in the usual way.

You must be able to do it on a PC, I just don't know how. A job for Google!

or, on a PC, just shift + print screen button (to copy the screen) then paste wherever you want it

no mac needed

Discontect top pipe between rad and engine. Hose in engine pipe untill full , then hose in rad until full. Does the job for me. Run with cap off until warm. squeeze pipes until air comes out. Job done. Run then recheck levels

many thanks lads for all your imputs will be doing it today if it ever stops fxxxxn rainin ,but thats what we get when we live in the rainy city "manchester" keep the faith ,mozz

hi lads , well i did what was suggested in taking cap off had engine running for 15---20 minutes watched header tank continously water rose and dropped a few times and once very hot i had about 30 yes 30 big bubbles came out replaced cap went for a 10 mile drive avg 50mph came back all ok no movement on the temperature gauge ,, so hopefully it was just simply full of air ,,level is fine ..so big thank you for everyone for all your imputs kind regards mozz
