AGM Battery Experiance ...?

My 2012 FFRR has its original battery and although it cranks and starts just fine, the radio and TV only last a few minutes when engine's not running. So thought i might investigate replacing the battery. Any of you folks gone non AGM and any effects on running radios, etc. As AGM's are so bl**dy expensive then if I must then I must but don't see the neccessity as these aren't stop/start engines ???
Any recommendations ?

Too new for me but Range Rovers have so many toys they seriously hammer any battery. Always put the biggest that will fit the tray (and cables). I find Platinum (used to be Oldhams) very reliable and would take a punt on them any day. HTS Spares used to flog them (no affiliation) and deliver but you need a business address.

I often wonder who actually manufactures these batteries, can't imagine every brand has its own factory, more like labelling machine ! lol

My last (of four from the same supplier) unknown brand battery cost £80 for my factory spec. 3.5efi RRC & lasted five & a half years.
This is for a car that does a max of 2K per annum, therefore gets minimal charging

My P38 daily driver has an Alphaline from Battery Megastore, it's now about 8 years old and just starting to show signs of loss of capacity. Alphaline has been replaced by Hankook which also seem to be good, I have them in my Transit. Last time I looked I think there were only 4 factories turning out automotive batteries in the EU.

I guess its down to whether I risk £100 or so and see if non AGM really makes a difference...

It's a Range Rover, £100 is pocket change to throw at a problem. What matters is that you have checked the battery, and if it is failing that you then get the correct size battery.

Our 2011 would never run tv/radio very long without engine running before shutting down, stating “low power” or something similar on the dash. Doesn’t mean your battery is bad. It’s part of design.
Just changed ours this winter as it had it in the cold. But have not tried to see how long radio/tv stays on now.

Get your battery and charging system,checked for health.
If you do change it look around on here and take the advise, in this case bigger is better whatever 1 you choose.

Don’t forget to get the battery monitoring system reset if you fit a new battery

Hi Kieth, do you have a battery number for the Hankook that replaces the Alphaline MF31-1000? Cheers Alan

Plus AGM battery has a different charge rate, you might end up cooking a lead acid one.

Hi Alan, I don't but I will look it up later today as I will shortly have to replace the battery in my P38

Alan, it looks like the same part number MF31-1000 Hankook £89.20. I just need to check the dimensions.

Just checked, that is the battery that fits, 115AH 1000CCA. £89.20 it doesn't seem to appear in the car section, it's in the truck section. There is a delivery charge of £7.50, still a very good price though.

You'll need to reprogram the charging system I believe, if you switch to or from AGM.
AGM should deal better for your needs than regular flooded lead acid, but you still don't want to discharge too far or leave it in a discharged state

Few makes of cars now the charge rate is control`d by computer and it takes account of battery age so if you fit new battery unless the computer knows its new it wont get the correct charge.

Pretty sure they are charged in a different way. I know my car has a 'smart' charging system that modified output depending if it's agm or not and also the AH of the battery. My car also learns the health of the battery over time and modifies output accordingly. Putting a new battery in place of and old one and it will over cook if it's not told.
I expect all newer vehicles have a similar system
