advice please

I have a 95 3.9 v8i disco, yesterday I was changing fluids, when I changed the trasnfercase there was a small ball bearing (I sapose) on the end of the plug bolt. the oil looked fine (no shavings) but could tell it was old. so not knowing what I should doI put it back at the end of the plug and put the plug back in. now, have doing this the dif. locks,it goes into low gear and all seems to work well. so my question is; should I be worrying bought this or will all be fine?? one other question. How can a person get rid of water in the tranny? have changed the fluid three times and it's a little pink (like strawberry milk) not sure what else to do other than bring it to a shop.
