Hi All, am after some advice if I may...........I recently sold my S3 and have regretted it ever since! :(

I only sold it as it was a bit of a struggle doing 50 on the dual carraigeway which I often use. It was 1983 swb fitted with ford 3.0 V6 and overdrive.

My question is...I'm looking to replace it but would an early 90 make 55-60mph a little more comfortably or would an S3 with standard petrol engine be a better bet?

Here's hoping the S3 comes out on top as much prefer the series......

The petrol should have more guts than my 2.25 diesel, and she quite happily plods along at 60 with the overdrive in (only non standard thing on mine is that she runs on 7.50x16 wheels rather than the bog standard SWB wheels).

Weird thing is she actually seems to have more power with the O/D in????? all logic would suggest this to be completely wrong, but she certainly feels stronger going up hills in 3rd or 4th (could just be the extra speed on run up to the slope that helps I s'pose????)

Will also admit that Gear box has been fully reconditioned, engine rebuilt, Diesel pump reconditioned and timing adjusted (all of which helps), but all as per original!!!

the 3 litre ford v6 should really steam along, fit 3.54 diffs and an overdrive with 7.50 tyres and you should see the high side of 100mph if you're brave enough

my 109 and 200tdi will eventually hit 80mph with just the diff swap, i did fit 4.3 diffs and an overdrive when i first built it and it would just touch 95mph with the engine singing it's head off, unfortunately that overdrive is now very poorly so that is why it now has 3.54 diffs

My standard series with a petrol engine (before i did the 200tdi) did 70mph on the roads with no O/D. t'was a bit scarry mind.
