Wunt know where to start. Take a magnet. Kick the tyres. Check all the lights on the dash. Check all the lights. Sagging roof. Sound tiles and insulation. Locks. Steering. Think about security. Brakes. Sweaty, perished seat foams. Leaks. Check for spiders ... the list goes on. The main thing I've learned is this: Buy it cos you love it. If you love it, you'll love it every day you get in it, because it's not like any other car, where it quickly just becomes what it is in you brain. You're motivated to maintain it and it's just so different, everyone else loves it, and if it's old and you don't put a private reg on it or pimp it up, everyone loves it more. If you're obsessed by value (depreciation, etc.) forget buying one. If you're the right person for a defender, then you won't see it as a money pit. You won't care if you have to spend on it 'cos you love it. If you do care about spending on a car, don't buy one. If you buy one, you'll not like it for a month, especially when you're getting out of bed in the morning, however, your musculoskeletal self adapts and before you know it, a RR Wraith will be uncomfortable and too quiet. I could go on but I'm off to a gin festival (good job I wrote this before I went instead of when I came back :0). I've just put my pics back on. I deleted them when I got banned for putting a picture of some executed homosexuals on a thread. I thought: F78king b&^stards, how dare you ban me.

Without seeing the vehicle, it’s difficult to make an assessment. But the fact that someone appears to have used fibreglass to effect a repair and potentially hide the corrosion suggests that the problem is worse than it appears. It could prove expensive to repair this part alone and might require a new section of chassis or a whole new chassis. Also, what else has been repaired in the same way? For the price, it would probably be better to keep looking for another Landy.

As previously mentioned, we NEED pictures to see the condition for ourselves, BUT, and it is quite a large but ... Due the quote below:-
Inconsistencies in the MOT history are a warning sign ..... Could be a somple explanation. Valve seals kanckered on the first test, and then replaced = lower emissions ... but there needs to be evidence of that IMHO...
A fibreglass repair on a structural member is potentially illegal and would therefore render your insurance null and void. It could also render you liable for prosecution under construction and use regulations. Nice

And ..... what the **** else have they been bodging ? .... seems like an ideal candidate for a nice fresh coat of underseal to me... IOW's, @Staffy1 - if you see a vehicle with clean fresh underseal .. then run away - cos it's more than likely been done to hide some ****ty "repair"

For that money, you could get a really sorted series 3 with a galv chassis and a rebuilt engine. In my opinion, corrosion only ever gets worse, it may be ok for a small number of years but sooner or later it's going to cost you a lot of money. Alternatively, a freelander is the best value for money landrover. Mine is 16 years old, has a feeble 1.8 engine but has surpassed all my expectations.

Please do not be disheartened by the comments we have all made, you asked first and we have all been honest.
£11k is a huge chunk of money only to relise you have been had. Too many have it’s not new.
Just because it’s a 2001 dont make it “better” than a 1995/90 or even an 85. In fact you may do better as if they have survived that long they have probably be either very well looked after or had a new chassis ( chassis is the biggest part for my money).
There are other options too a freelander was mentioned. Not for me but very capable, RR go for cheap money, generally don’t rust, but can be troublesome in other areas.
If you have really set you heart on a 110 (was it) then continue to look you will find 1, don’t rush at the first 1 you see.
A comment for me that really stands out on here was @Mackers
Not saying any other guys haven’t posted very sound advice
Mr Mackers joined as green as the green oval, he actually got a very solid little 90, not without problems but he has worked through and enjoyed the journey (I think) but for him now to relise from the MOT history to leave it alone, he has learnt a lot, and his little 90 is a gem.
So to end IMHO you need to walk away from that 1, you could look around for 110s for sale on here as they are good guys and have looked after them, or at the very least will be honest about the faults.

My mate has a freelander. My other half hasn't bought one yet. They're both great (I'm being diplomatic) but completely uncomparable. I don't know why they're compared and joisted against each other on here. They're Venus and Mars.

I am soooo confused. I was sure you joined and then immediately asked for opinions / help. Opinions and sage advice given , I'm not sure what your response means. Are you ignoring said advice? Or just commenting that some dealers are dishonest?
I have taken the advice of people in the forum and walked away from the car I was thinking of buying
In relation to the car dealers it’s just an off chance question to see if that particular garage are recommended by anyone in here

Ok following on from this but im sure out of your price range a game keeper mate of mine 2nd owner of this 110 xs model 2011 2.4 engine. Full leather with mods as required for running around the estate in for shooting will be left on the landy except he will be removing the gun case and refitting the spare seat......only 41k miles full service history
Has a winch on the rear of the roof rack and needs a dam good clean but is mint.
More details for any interested including price. Nearest i can find is 31k at a dealer with over 100k miles on this will be a lot less
