wow £523 for just a clutch youve been well nailed down heres an idea of what is achievable me and the old geezer over the street set abbout a clutch on a 55 plate transit being the engine and box are roughly set out the same as landy minus the transfer box we gave it the works
converted the dual mass flywheel clutch plates pressure plates slave cylinder clutch arm and fitted a new starter motor as the owner had burned it out all changed to standard system as replacement parts are cheaper than dual mass
it took us 1 day on the driveway (as we couldnt put the van on the ramp cos the roof is too low ) the replacement parts cost £200 complete kit with flywheel starter motor and slave cylinder our labour cost fer 2 men was £150

the van was dropped off with us at 9am and we had done the job ready to collect by half 4 get trading standards on the case as it seems to all sense and purpouses the garage is takeing the **** out of you good and propper

Hi,

Thank you for all the advice, it's been very useful.

I picked up the landrover from the garage today, with all problems rectified (starter motor and handbrake cable).

I'm hoping that the problem's solved now, and know to avoid that garage in future!

Thanks again,

Josie

You can't leave us all hanging like that. Spill the beans. What did they do to rectify the faults? Is your gearchange back to normal now aswell?

Glad you got it all sorted though.

Hi,

My partner rang them and they were alot more accomodating (i.e didn't try and fob him off) to him than to me!! They said that the starter motor had a corroded relay and would clean it up, and said that the handbrake cable had seized and needed changing and would change this for us too............so not sure what was really wrong but we've got it back and it drives well and had it checked over. So technically they didn't admit any responsibility but did do the work which to me is an admittance.

I think that they thought they could get away with fobbing me off, which is very frustrating. As soon as they spoke with my partner they agreed to make it all right asap!!

The only problem now is the flat tyre.......

Thanks again everyone - I've learnt alot in the last few days!!

Josie
