P38A about to lose my sanity

i have been offered a p38 at silly money (cheap), looks a nice motor but suffers from electric gremlins, apparently eats battery's, radio and satnav only work when battery is low, the guys been told its becm by main stealer and quoted £2k, i know i'm going to buy it with my heart not my head, so first question is, could it be becm or is that a red herring

Do you trust the seller integrity and does he have the quote stating the fault. Could be genuine reason. As for replacement I bow to the guys here knowledge.
 
Take their diagnosis in mind but generally ignore it. Come to your own conclusion and trust that only. 2.5k to get mine running lr specialist said, I’m still driving around in it years later not spent that much yet all in.

If it’s worth it to you then go for it. The more they say it needs work the more discount you expect ;)
If it’s 2k to sort how much does he think it’s worth after sorted?
2.5k? = £500 value now.

Brilliant, the evidence suggests walking away and saving your money but it’s like a drug and the initial outlay belies the true cost in man-hours (clearly I mean person-hours) and money. I fall for this trap every time :D if you don’t buy it I will, oh ffs :D

+1 on that.

£750 is worth a punt. Even if it costs you a grand in parts (thinking all the usual things on a car 20+ years old) you could still turn a profit at the end if the bodywork and interior looks good.
 
+1 on the main stealer knowing nothing. If you're not after finance on a brand new Rover, they aren't all that interested in helping you, they will lighten your wallet on your way through though.
Also +1 for at 750, it'll pay you back in parts if you snout around and find it's a gonner. Fix it up and you've got something that's probably nearing the appreciating asset, not depreciating asset.
