Aaron's 90 rebuild (Round 2)

That comment was made as an exaggeration, It's not 6k just to rebuild But it's at least 6k including the original cost of the vehicle. You've only got to look at the cost of good second hand panels to see where the money has gone. And £1200 on a chassis. You're doing a rebuild your self so I'm sure you know all the little bits soon add up.
I've had a few orders with lr direct with what seemed to be made up of nuts, bolts, washers, screws, seals and gaskets, bearings etc... and its £250

I certainly do know how the bits mount up. I've spent 3K already and still have a long way to go:eek:

Your Landy is in better condition than mine, but I could still imagine racking up a big spend. Doing your own painting will help massively. I might end up being forced in to doing that myself.

I wished I had a nice big compressor so that I could try and paint my tratter myself :)

Wish I did have a big compressor. 100L tank and a half decent gun.
I'd have bought a bigger one but I don't have the room for it.

I don't know mine was quite bad. But if you've spent 3k already it must have been worse than mine  I've said it before but I could have gone further if I felt the need.

Depends what you want paint wise. If you want it perfect pay someone if you don't mind the odd imperfection do it yourself.

Nah defenately not perfect, it's a tratter it would look odd. lol :D

What sort of cash is a full respray?

Really couldn't say mate. I've never enquired. But from the numbers I've seen flying around they seem to vary from £750-2500. Obviously the quality of the job and the area is a factor in the above prices.
But I'm more that happy to do it myself and have £200ish in paint.

Yep I'm happy with how mine is and I don't want to damage it but atleast if I do it won't cost a lot to repair as I'll have loads of paint left over.
Never mind paying someone to do it and it being perfect I wouldn't want to take it out

Had an hour or so today. Was bored of sorting all me rammel out so thought I'd start stripping the rear door.

Tried removing the glass but I don't want to smash it so left it in. May have another go tomorrow.

And started prepping. Still got a bit of fillering to finish and still need to repair the bottom but I can't find the regulator for my welder

So managed to get the door prep finished today, To be honest the rear door is probably the worst panel on the 90.
It's been fecking warm. Filler was drying far to quick.
Did I mention I f*cking hate it when it's to hot

I then looked at the roof.
Sun roof has been siliconed shut in the past and what a bloody mess

I've started to remove some of the silicone and it's looking slightly better. But no doubt it's now going to leek

Although I do plan on leaving it siliconed shut I just wanted it a bit tidier than it was.

Then went over the entire roof with some 240g on the da.
God I wish I'd bought one sooner.
This is the sort of thing I'm dealing with. After a quick go over with the da it shows all the scratches/gouges up. But the da gets them out in no time and nice and flat.
Not something I'd want to do by hand

Tomorrows job is filling all the holes. I had a quick count and got to 21

Wow that's a proper **** job someone did on the shower fitting!

Tell me about it. Fecking nightmare.

nice mate... i know the da is a sander but do you have a link to one?

This is the one I bought. Really happy with it.

Obviously there are cheaper or more expensive ones so I went for middle of the range.

I think he treated himself to an electric one from Screwfix.

Correct ;)

got a Bosch hook and loop, live the thing go from 40grit on upto how ever fine you want

Yep, Love mine to :D
Another one of those tools you think how did I manage before.
Same as an impact gun. Couldn't do without that either now :p

should have borrowed my festool one from the old place i used to work at... damn lol

Them festool ones are a lot of money anorl
So yes you should have "borrowed" it ;)
You planning on painting the 90 then?

Managed to get the roof prep finished today :) Including the 20odd holes that needed filling
Stuck a plate on the inside so I had something to fill to.
Had been dreading doing the roof but it's turned out rather easy :)
No pics as the camera died.

Plan is to get some primer on it in the morning and depending what else I get dragged into I may get some colour on it in the afternoon.

I plan on a lot mate, I'm a little scared that if i start "doing odd bits" then its going to turn into a rebuild... I know the bulkhead is going to require attention asap but then again I'm king cabbing mine tomorrow so its going to want a fresh lick of paint also...

Just don't have the time or resources to start ripping it to pieces like it probably needs.

Keep up your good work mate you'll soon be finished!

Just do it as a rolling resto mate. Think I've posted a few pics of my brothers on this thread. We just had to make the most of bank holiday weekends etc.
Again with the paint. My brothers was multi coloured/half prepped half primed half painted for months. But prep being the hard work just paint it when you get a nice weekend.
What's the plan with the bulkhead though? Going to be quite a task

And cheers mate as for mine. I could have it done in a couple of days but it'd be pointless which is why I've only done odd bits this week.

Great project Aaron I'm doing similar to mine and have got glossy wheel spats like yours but I think they look sh****t would rather be matt finish ,any ideas how to achieve this?

Cheers :) Easiest way would be to just buy a set of unpainted spats. Or if you wanted just paint them matt black.
personally I would go with the first option.

By feckin god it's been warm today, Infact to warm. Was 31° in the garage

Anyway the roof is now painted despite the hot weather.
It's a bit of a tight squeeze in the garage and would have liked to have done it in the gazebo but I don't want to **** the neighbours of do I
So roof prepped.

Moved it in to the garage and masked up.

Etch then high build primmer. Left it for a couple of hours and flatted it down.

And painted. To be honest I think it was a bit to hot to be painting but I'll know more tomorrow when I get it outside.
