cant see the pics bb as im at work but do you need any stretchers? i have no use for the ones that came with mine.

you are surging ahead with yours!!!!

Aim is MOT this week :) Don't need stretchers thanks, I'll be taking the stretcher rails out tomorrow. Sealed up some holes and seams today and attempted.....and abandoned the heater fan. Need a new (old but working) one.

All lights working except to change the contacts in one sidelight and a bulb for the no plate illumination light.....new rear no plate and one wheel bearing to look at then I'm legal

Found the original Marshall ID Plate on the front nearside body under a ton of paint today.....forgot to take piccys so none of this happened :p

thats exactly the same location where i found my marshal plate. Again under a load of layers of paint.

The lights... are they a large screw fitment? mine are and ive never seen lights like it. I have no lenses on mine at all (I presume removed for spares for another one at some point) Any idea what i might be looking for to buy some? Or am i going to have to fit more modern lights?

You got the likkle petrol in yours?

Yep a baby petrol goes ok though :)

Lenses come up on fleabay if you search LR military lights, sometimes called bedford lights.

for the lights you might be better off buying a job lot and flogging what you dont need as individually they can be £20+ on ebay. They were fitted to most military vehicles, you can prob get bundles of them from withams, blanchards, jacksons etc. give em a bell

The proof.....noo lights...

That work...

And to complete the set along with a new single line numberplate (so it doesn't stick above the roofline) and additional illumination lamp.

Wired in an aux heater in the cab at least until I've got another heater fan and swapped out a switch so the internal cab lights working as well.

Is yours a 2a or a 3?
I might be completely wrong but from what I've read (I'll find it out...) the windows in the back doors and vents on either side of the body "should" make it a late 2a, four stretcher model.

I could well be totally wrong though... ;)

(I've wanted a Marshall bodied ambulance since I was 16 ... Although I've seen a Lomas bodied early 110 V8 round Donny and Barnsley.)

She's a SIII, from what I can find out the same body was fitted to IIa's and III's though the Dutch versions had some variations

The First Generation utilised an extended and raised body on either a Series II/IIA or, less commonly, Series III 109". These were in production from the late Fifties right up to the early Eighties and were based on the MoD specification 109" of whatever Series was in production at the time. The Dutch also used a number of these in a slightly modified form. Roughly 2,000 of these were made during the production lifespan.

Here's the Marshall body plate

And the VIN plate clearly states 'Ambulance 2/4 Stretcher 4x4 Rover Series 3' but I'd be interested in anything you can find on the subject

May be you should of had a young apprentice so you could teach him how to do things. Instead of taking a donkeys age:D

Well done, am Impressed on how quick you got it done

Wont really be happy until she's sealed and painted on the outside and I get started on the inside.....but minor things like being legal have to be sorted first ;)

Sorry, I was wrong (completely...).

Just found the article in LRW (July 2003 P114 ff).

According to the article "The military designated the Series III as the FV18073 Ambulance Two/Four Stretcher 4X4 Series III...".
I thought you might have had an odd-ball but it was just me. ;)

Edit. Looking at the article, the brackets on the ambulance body above the cab for the 'number plate' make it post '77 but the S suffix tells you that anyway.

... Can someone pass my coat and hat please...

So much for the mot, arrived at the station with the engine purring like a kitten and was just checking over the lights while I was waiting when the dip/indicator/horn switch fell to pieces leaving no dip and no main beam unless I held the stalk forwards.....so I turned around and came home. Last of the 10 working days tomorrow so it's lucky I have a new switch.

Took a while to get the gunk out of the screen wash pipes and devised an artfull bodge to keep the water in the bottle clean.....

Must remember to take a needle in the morning because at the moment it's a roof wash

Got the military history back today, 78-88 CSU Thetford, 88-92 TMP Thetford and 92-98 6/7 PWRR until she was released.

Thetford I gather is an army training centre though I've no idea what PWRR is?

Cab heater working and started stripping out the stretcher rails.
