The FL1 IRD was altered around 2002 I think. The ratios were changed / uprated to make it better work better with regard to the VCU...

Question - is it possible to identify between the earlier IRD and the 'uprated' IRD, and how?

Ratio changed for the 2001 model year which started late 2000 when the v6 and Td4 started. Also 1Axxxxxx versions of the 1.8 petrol.

edit: I created a fred about this subject. It seems not all FL1's receive the change int ratio

Thanks Baptista, yes can the iRD by itself be identified. Is their a serial number cast / carved into it somewhere? Perhaps casting numbers?

The reason I ask is while I was under my FL 1.8 I saw that there is large felt pen marker lettering on the IRD casing. I looks to me that it has been replaced at some stage. I'm trying to work out if by a stroke of good fortune it might be the later uprated one.

My IRD numbers are:
By the filler = 789122[183]1 - the numbers in brackets are cast onto the casing, the others are stamped to make the number 7891221831.

The number by the drain point is - 210527.
