Do people on the dole get 1000 a month? I ask that seriously..

Plus if your other half wont let you go away for 3 months to earn cash, get experience and improve chances of getting a job then she aint worth being with. Young kids maybe a diff story...but i know folks that are away for that long in the desert or on the rigs...

By the time you take into account rent rates etc.....probably;)

Glad to see folk are talking about it now!
Their website is Krizevac Project. Inspired Community Transformations

I just got back from Witham SV this evening, we're hoping to buy another 4 90/110's for the project (and a load of Bedford MJ's)

Attached pic of my lad in an APC!

Well its a slow thursday night...tomorrow most people will be drunk or at the titty bar and have forgotten all about this thread..

As a thought, is there internet access in the location?

Assuming there is and the locals have half a clue-internet forums/ remote support

It's not what they are looking for but I like your lateral thinking! I'll find out.

If they have basic mechanical skills then for instance a netbook with decent battery life and even satellite broadband and a digital camera
(expensive, but not compared to paying someone)

plus you could put electronic manuals such as RAVE on it

Buster has guides and sure we can set them right on few issues:D

Then they could donate some of the grand a month to mybackpocket@taxfreehaven

Also consider duel boot ubuntu linux if you don't have local support (virus free and less likely to go tits up)

If this was the same time next year... Without a doubt. Free trip to Africa in a gap year, whilst being paid to **** about with Landys and do abit of off roading? **** yeah

Can i recommend posting on Land Rover UK Forums They have some members from South Africa who might know someone or something?

I'd also like to suggest a couple of things:

1. post in the Defender forum
2. Ask your friends who are in Malawi how they get along with the British embassy there. Because the FCO has a special relationship with Land Rover (LR must send a mechanic anywhere in the world at short notice if FCO asks, and on periodic basis for maintenance), the chaps at the embassy may be able to provide an informal introduction to whoever comes down to service and work on their cars and I'm sure chatting with that person might throw up a couple of ideas or get either the embassy or LR interested in helping in some way, etc etc.
3. Same might apply to MOD.
4. Look for retired / semi-retired mechanics with 40 years experience rather than the guys who're just starting out. First of all, they're better. Secondly, they'd 've paid off their mortgages, kids are out of the house and they might be sporting enough for a bit of mild adventure and mentoring. Although they may be slightly fussy about accommodation and may want to bring the missus. The younger ones have too much on their plates.

Somtimes you can justify the wages for a chance to do somthing different and its only 3 months so should be a walk in the park TBH more like a paid holiday working on good old Landys.
