Im trying to fit an A-bar to my Defender and the bastard nuts on the bumper are siezed solid. If its just a case of shearing them off and replacing, do i need longer bolts to take up the A-bar?

Ive already tried heating them up and soaking with WD40 but they are just going to break.

Thanks mate, im guessing you can buy original bolts the right size once i have snapped these off.

how would a tapping block turn?

it might when one bolt is sheared off, but would only turn so far before it hits the side of chassis

Jeeez. Are you stupid or a troll?

It wouldn't turn that's the point. The OP thinks his nuts are siezed, as in he can't undo his nuts. These are captive nuts, as in they dont move. What don't you understand?

They might turn if the "captive" bit was rotten;)
Might be a guid idea to skoosh some prefered releasin' spray into the holes in the "dumb irons" / front chassis tae see if that helps;):D
 
he probably means the bolts are seized in the captive nuts, or in this case the threading blocks.the bolts will snap when enough pressure is applied.he will most likely find this the least of his worries as the chassis ends will probably be ****ed when he removes the bumper
 
Thanks, I think Gratches link that he has put up is the cause of the problem and as somebody else has said, i will order these parts before i break them off. As for the chassis ends, if they are ****ed there is two choices either a chicken-**** weld repair or put it back together and forget about it.

GT85 from Halfords is good stuff.... try tightening the bolts half a turn and then try and slacken back more than half a turn.... if you get them moving and take your time you have a good chance but do tighten them every other turn or they will snap and add more lube....
