Ahhhh yours is the one up for sale. I’ll have to be honest I may have screenshots of yours on my phone

. Inside the back of yours is something like how I’d like mine to be.

I’d also like to sell mine on, buy a newer one, do it all again and work up to a good td5, but I don’t think I’d get a newer one on a galvanised chassis for the right money.

So I’ve managed to get the rear step on and both supporting brackets onto the chassis, painted a tow ball and got that on

Also made a small panel to house a couple of switches for the rear work lights and ones been left spare for some front lights at some point

Cut from a bit of spare metal

Quick clean up with a grinder, a coat of matt black and then fitting.

Last week I changed the gearbox oil (what a pain in the backside with a leaking syringe) and the engine oil and filter and it’s the first time I’ve taken the Land Rover home this week. Around a 20 mile round trip and I’m pleased to announce there’s no issues as of yet.

I did take it back to the unit as I don’t want to leave it outside of the house with no security so next week I’ll make a start on a few things to make it secure before it comes home for good. I can then spend time doing the rest of the servicing, and start on sound deadening and some carpeting etc. I’m in two minds whether to buy an old headline and recover or to just carpet the roof? Suggestions?

Oh and a picture of a 1980 F100 (I think it is anyway), for those of you who are into the American trucks. It’s having a full respray to white and blue and plenty of other work to go with it.

This is a switch that I made for all the aux lights - cut a hole in the bulb head top to seat. I covered the bulk head completely in a carpet as sound was an issue. Really worked well TBF.

Not a bad idea! Yeah I’m hoping to reduce road noise and engine noise with the sound deadening and just give it an overall comfortable feel.

I think I have to agree, especially in the front but finding them local is a bit of a PITA. Some of the ones I’ve seen are 100’s of miles away and won’t post. So just a waiting game really

hi nice work there fairplay if you can be sure to put lots of waxoil or dynax in the rear step bumper as you get alot of water in it and when you go around corners you get rust runs down crossmember .
i had the same dilemma with wheels tyres the new bf goodrich all terrain k o is great looks bit chunky too

I never actually thought about waxoiling inside the step, good idea

That defender looks a tidy one! They’re the alloys that i would like, and the overall wheel look is spot on!

If you look aswell i fitter bushranger arch flares from devon 4x4 they are v strong and flexible too as the wheels used to stick out the arch a little. But now i dont get any mud up the side now.

Haha cheers. I should of gone into more detail with it really but oh well. I get a lot good comments about the colour, but I’ve already chosen a new colour scheme for if I do another

As for updates, there isn’t much. I’ve been making my own pedal lock, like the X-eng one that folds down, I won’t go into to much details about it though for security reasons. I’ve also bought a rear headlining that I’m collecting on eBay, £50 which I didn’t think was a bad buy. The question now is.... what colour material do I trim it in, black or dark grey? I’m thinking of using the alcantara/suede stuff for the headlining and side panels probably, and then the carpet lining sort of material for on the seat boxes and lower down.

Not sure about cleaning but I had it in my MR2 (previous car) and it was pretty hard wearing, not sure how it would cope with mud though. If it's on headlining I wouldn't see an issue because it's likely away from most of the high impact areas

Picked up the rear headlining today, really happy with it. I could probably just put it straight in and it’ll be fine, the material isn’t sagging that badly. However I want it a dark grey colour I think. So it’s in the dining room at the moment whilst I order some material

.

What’s the the score with the rear courtesy light? Is it the same as the front one? There’s a cut out for it obviously, I don’t know whether to pay like £25 for a new light a new light and plate, or buy an led style one that’s just as good and will do the job, just connect it to the front one so they come on together
