Hello Everyone
As I'm quite new to this forum, let me introduce myself first: I'm Ivica from Serbia, a proud owner of a 90 2.5TD, production 1987, which I bought a few months ago. As this is my first ever LR, you'll understnd that I don't know virtually anything of its "personality"
The problem I noticed immediately after getting it is clouds of white smoke when going downhill with the engine breaking. However, this does not happen on flat roads or uphill. I checked the injectors and was told they were ok. The oil consumption is quite high, I guess 1 litre per 300-350km (~180-220 miles :)).
Another thing that happened recently is an oil leak, I guess from the turbocharger, as there's quite a lot of oil on the air filter box. The ribbed hose that goes from the turbo is also soaked with oil at its bottom. But the engine still starts without any problems, runs smoothly and feels powerful enough. Do you think it is close to its end, or is it something else? I must say that it's impossible to say the correct mileage of the car.
Your opinions/advice will be very much appreciated.
P.S. I apologize if my English sounds too awkard to you :)

i would defo say its unburned fuel if its white smoke..how were the injectors checked?
they need to be checked by a specialist as the spray pattern is crucial to the performance..i would suggest you have them checked again if it wasnt done by a specialist

As for the oily air filter, your engine is breathing heavily. There are loads of threads on here with more info on that. It is a problem on pretty much all engines of that age have. Best cure is a 200tdi.

Thank you so much guys for your prompt replies.
@wiltshire landyman: A "specialist" did check them, but to be honest he did not seem very reliable to me! I'll definitely see another one.
Unfortunately, here where I live it's very difficult to take proper care of such a car...no spare parts, no skilled mechanics...

Thanks again
