6BT 90 Conversion Question

Hi, can anyone recommend someone that can put a Cummins 6BT into a 90 for me as I don't have the tools or ability to do it myself.

Location most places in England to be honest (but I'm in Lincs) because I'd rather travel to get a good job done.

Why a 6bt? It weighs half a ton. If you've no tools or ability then servicing/repairing it could be expensive. There's somebody on here who has recently carried out this very conversion, if you're parient I'm sure he will see this thread and comment if he can help.
 
Yup, it's a job for Aaron Morris. Hopefully he might see his name here and look in and comment.
 
There's a Cummins Land Rover page on Facebook there someone on there that dose the conversions but it isn't cheap though your looking at about 4K with cost of the engine plus parts and labour
 
The Facebook group is the best place for knowledge and conversion parts can be bought. I was considering doing one, had the engine and gearbox ready to take out of the truck. But just couldn't justify it, so sticking with 300tdi in both my defenders now. Aaron Morris's write up is good, but just shows how much work it took, and ultimately it failed to get on the road. If I had a bigger garage and loads more time and cash I would have done it, just because I could.
 
To be fair, Aaron got all the bits made up (or got someone else to make them) for the conversion - brackets, pipes, machining components to allow the 6BT gearbox to mate with the Land Rover transfer box and so on. The thing that stopped it being a complete success was that the 6BT engine was in much poorer condition than he'd hoped, with very worn bearings.

So one needs to be careful in one's choice of engine. Or factor in overhauling it. I see there are 6BT overhaul kits available with things like bearing shells, gaskets and the like included but they seem to be around the £1000 mark.
 
Aaron ended up selling his complete conversion as he didn't get on with it in the end.

I almost bought it from him but glad I didn't now, as I have seen the light :D #om606 #superturbodiesel
 
Clive at black sheep off road in Kent does this conversion and has done for years I think.

I can't remember his forum name though sorry

Thanks for all the input, hope the cost is not that high or this might be a non starter but let's see. I'll leave this open and post back when I have some estimates if anyone's interested in knowing.

If your not doing the work yourself it is unlikely to be cheap

Yeh i know there's a lot of engineering to get something like that to fit a 90, I guess seeing that u can get the units for around 600 notes easily I didn't expect it to be that much, let's see anyway it might not be ...
 
It will be the labour charge, an engine is cheap but it's the hours and hours of fabrication and custom fitting to fit a massive, non-standard engine, that will cost.

It's not undoable but this isn't just a case of 'drop it in, couple of hours and couple of hundred quid'
